We eat a lot of yogurt in this house, and everyone likes a different kind. Chris likes Dannon Fruit on the Bottom, Nathan likes Gogurt or those Trix yogurts that come in Day-Glo colors, Ryan likes Yoplait Thick n Creamy Vanilla, Kaitlyn gets YoBaby. I like the new Light n Fit yogurts sweetened with Splenda.

I was asked to try new flavors of Yoplait Whips! yogurt, which comes in new coffee, caramel and chocolate flavors. With the three coupons I purchased Chocolate Mousse Style in Chocolate Cherry flavor, Dulce de Leche style in Rich Creamy Caramel flavor, and Creamy Latte style in Creamy Latte flavor.

The boys assisted me in the taste test. Our first spoonful was the Chocolate Cherry. The first problem I have with this yogurt is the texture. Yogurt is supposed to be creamy, not, as Ryan described it, “foamy”. Secondly, although yogurt has a natural tanginess, this flavor was downright sour. I like chocolate-covered cherries, and I even like cherry yogurt, but combining the chocolate, the cherry and the odd chocolate-mousse consistency just doesn’t work. Ryan pronounced it “disgusting”.

Next we tried the Caramel flavor. It did smell and taste like caramel, but the consistency is unappealing. I tried stirring it to take out some of the air and make it more creamy, but it didn’t really work. This was also described as “sour”, “foamy”, and “disgusting”.

Last, we tried the coffee flavor. I had my hopes up for this one, but once again, it was the sour taste and the foamy consistency that overwhelmed the coffee flavor. Nathan thought he liked it, and ate a few spoonfuls before saying he had changed his mind. Ryan wouldn’t even try it.

The last thing I want to mention is that the cups only contain four ounces of yogurt, yet have 150 calories and four grams of fat. That is a lot of calories and fat for such a small portion. I won’t buy these yogurts again, or any other flavor of Whips! I don’t like the consistency at all. If I need four ounces and 150 calories of something chocolate flavored, I’ll buy some Hagen Dazs.
