It’s 12:45 a.m. which means NaBloPoMo has officially started! Remember this enthusiasm, people, because I might be sobbing in a few weeks over my lack of creative and fresh thoughts. A new post. EVERY DAY. Thankfully I have Kaitlyn’s birthday as well as Thanksgiving to help fill up at least a few days.
You may also be wondering why this is my first post since last Thursday. Well, that afternoon is when I got a phone call from my son’s teacher reminding me that I was one of only two parents in the class who signed up to help with holiday parties. 21 kids, 19 parents who didn’t write their name on the huge piece of posterboard hanging outside the classroom door on Meet The Teacher Night. So, that left me and another mother, who fortunately I know well, to plan the whole Halloween party. Between the two of us we bought all the food, plates/cups/napkins, and craft items. I think we did a great job and the kids had a good time.
What made the day even better was that Kaitlyn was really a perfect angel. I woke her up from a nap, fed her a yogurt, put her in her costume and off we went. She spent the next two hours alternating between the stroller and her brothers’ arms while I served snacks, set up a cookie decorating table and helped kids make Tootsie Pop ghosts. She seemed to love watching all the big kids, and never made so much as a peep the whole time. That’s my girl.
We also visited Nathan’s classroom, which was much quieter. His teacher runs a pretty tight ship, which is fine by me. Nathan loved showing off his baby sister to his friends.
Once we got home, there was just enough time to make a quick dinner before the boys headed out to trick-or-treat with a friend. I found these Flatout wraps shaped like little ghosts, and grilled them with cheese in the middle to make a sort of grilled cheese sandwich. Served with Campbell’s tomato soup, of course. Edited to add: I found the wraps at Kroger near the bakery. Flatout is a company in Saline, Michigan, so I don’t know if their products are available nationwide or not. But you could do some kind of cookie-cutter thing if you were so inclined. Ha, look at me, acting like I’m all crafty, when I was really at Kroger to pick up already-baked sugar cookies for my son’s class to decorate, because bake them? And risk burning them to a crisp? I think not.
Chris invited two couples over to watch movies and hang out with us, since we don’t get a lot of trick-or-treaters. Kaitlyn had fun patting Gretchen and admiring her giraffe costume.

And thus ended Halloween 2006. The candy is up on the top of our tallest bookshelf, and to be honest I’m not even all that tempted to eat it. I spotted a few Hershey’s Special Dark minis that I might grab for myself, but for me the biggest temptation is the bag of Ruffles chips and ranch veggie dip that Chris bought for our guests. Who didn’t eat anything. At all. Did I mention that I lost 4.5 pounds in my first week on Weight Watchers? And that so far this week I haven’t lost any? Stupid Ruffles.
Remember, I’ll be posting every day this month. So please stop by when you can and leave a comment if you so desire. Feel free to ask questions for me to answer in upcoming posts! Please! I could use the help.

Hello and welcome to Table for Five! I'm Elizabeth, and this blog started in September 2005 as a way for me to participate in the Mommy Blogging community. I'm married with three terrific kids-boys ages 11 and 9 and a 2 year old daughter. Things I love include my family, coffee, Diet Coke, TV, reading, and Target.

Stupid Ruffles, indeed.
Sounds like a great Halloween! I helped in all three of my school aged kids classrooms. It was a great time, but exhausting!
Whatabunchacuties!!!!!
I can take or leave most candy, but i am powerless before a potato chip.
I am powerless against chocolate, for sure, but also potato chips. I’ve been craving them for days and so far have been good, but I’m thinking at lunch time today I’m caving. I so love those fat-laden, salted, little slices of potato heaven.
HOW CUTE are those little giraffe and pumpkin costumes!!!
Very cute kids!
While we were trick or treating last night my son kept telling me, “I don’t like chocolate” My reply was, “More for Mommy!” LOL
Grilled-chese ghosts.
I am in awe of your greatness and your adorable kidlets.
Ruffles, ack! I think I can attribute at least twenty of my extra pounds to potato chips alone. Why are they so easy to eat? And so high in calories? And so addictive?
Good luck! I personally have given up chips, probably forever, because I have no power in the face of greasy goodness.
Great job with the first week of WW.
Anything with salt is a problem for me. Oh, and beer. And carbs. And chocolate. And bacon…
I keep eating candy today, but that’s only because I’m out of chips, which I’m craving like crazy. Maybe I should just go lick the salt shaker.
Go forth and blog! Found you through Fussy…giving moral blogging support on Day one :-).
And I am. so impressed. by the grilled cheese ghosts! WHERE did you find the tortillas? I must have those next year!
No trick or treaters are allowed at our gated community … so no Hershey Kisses dark to horde. So, just in case, you can always send the extras to me!
The pics are so cute!
AND, you made me hungry for a toasted cheese sandwich. Even more than the Hershey Kisses dark!
Good luck Elizabeth! Good for you and everyone else participating in NaBloPoMo. I’m lucky to get the motivation or time to post twice a week.
And I’m with you on the Ruffles. Give me a bag and a big bowl of onion dip and I’ll gladly give up chocolate for a month. Well, almost.
Congrats on the weight loss. You know what you should do? You should pass the chips and dip this way. I mean, so you don’t eat it or anything. I’ll, uh … I’ll keep it safe for you. Yeah, safe. That’s it.
I love the ghost sandwiches. One year, I made an apple dip and the “crackers” were made out of ghosts that I had cut from pie crust and baked. It was a huge pain, but cute.
