Day 24 Part Two: The one where I screw up my theme

All I wanted was to switch my theme for Christmas to this adorable Winter Wonderland featuring a really cute snowman! I collect snowmen, so it’s perfect for me!

I followed the directions. I downloaded the files and dropped them into my wp-content/themes folder. I logged in, went to Presentation–>Themes, and clicked on the new theme. And got nothing. The only thing that changed was the colors in the margins. No snowman, no snowflakes, nothing. So I switched back to my regular Blue Horizon theme, and it’s all screwed up! I lost the cool sidebar thing that showed new comments, even the font changed.

I want to believe that I am an intelligent person who knows how to follow directions correctly. I want to believe that this isn’t freaking ROCKET SCIENCE and is not that hard. So why can I not even do one simple thing? Grrrrr. Hopefully I’ll figure out what I did wrong and get both the new theme running and also put the old one back to rights. In the meantime, if anything looks wonky to anyone, please let me know.

  1. Sorry you’re having trouble with the template. I hate it when that happens! I’m in Blogger so I don’t have any advice for you except to pass on some advice someone else gave me once, which is to copy all of your template into a Word Doc before adjusting it just in case something goes wrong.

Good luck fixing it. It looks fine to me except that your sidebar is way down the page. (I’m in IE).

Hope you guys had a nice Thanksgiving!

Thanks, MOTR. I resized a large photo, did that help the sidebar problem?

Hey, sorry you had trouble with my cute snowman theme, I am going to look it over and be sure the zip didn’t get corrupted or something.

Colleen, I would really appreciate that. I want that theme so badly!

  5. RWA says:

The fact that you have your OWN website and aren’t under the Blogger regime puts you so far ahead of me that it isn’t funny.

I hope you get it worked out, though.

I wish I could change the look of my blog. I’m stucky with boring grey all the time.

    Blech.
