I went shopping again today, ALONE. My husband is really racking up the get-sex-when-HE-wants-it points, I tell ya. At Best Buy, I bought “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “The Santa Clause” on DVD, 2 for twenty bucks. Such a deal. At Target, I returned a pair of pajama bottoms that Chris decided he didn’t want after all, even though they were printed with Stewie from Family Guy and the words “Obey Me”. You’d think he would have wanted to keep those. Last stop was Meijer, for net lights for our shrubs, plus other outdoor-lighting accessories.
The Michigan weather is being atypically cooperative where outdoor decorating is concerned. In about an hour, Chris got us all hooked up:
There are four more shrubs on the other side of the door, continuing the alternating red and green, and the icicle lights go all the way across. This is the earliest we have ever put up the lights, but Chris leaves for Salt Lake City on Tuesday and won’t be home until the following Wednesday. So, lights now. It makes me very happy and gets me in the Christmas spirit. What about you? Have you started decorating yet?

The tree and all of the inside decorations are up—I couldn’t wait. My husband will put up the lights next weekend while I’m off shopping with the kids and my mom.
Your lights look great—and I can see the hubby and the little one peeking out the screen door.
Looks good, and I was just going to say I like the little elf in the doorway too!
I’m one state away from you (across the lake) and ALL my neighbors always do their decorating on Thanksgiving weekend. We always go away, so we are behind and look Scroogey!
This is Wordgirl reporting from Texas. Our lights are up, too. Over and out.
No lights up yet although tonight I did get hubby to agree to putting them up. I think next weekend will be the weekend we get all festive — inside and out!
Your house looks great! At first I thought that was a postcard or something.
Cute!
I decorated my cubicle on the day before T-day because no one wants to do any work the day before a holiday. Does that count?
Man…I’m slow. I haven’t even brought the lights up from the basement yet. I might just skip the whole thing. I’m that lazy after turkey day!
We are so not decorating yet. With the two destructo-kids, I’m waiting a few weeks to even get the tree. Although we do have some lights in the giant tree out front, but they’re so old that if we plugged them in we’d probably set the tree on fire. But I’d love to see your whole house all lit up - we go driving through town to see everybody else’s houses and to check out the lights.
We don’t have our lights up yet, but we have celebrated one Christmas, so I think we’re ahead of the game! Mike should have done the lights yesterday when it was 60 (here in NY), but decided that sitting on his butt programming was much better.
Also? You totally made me homesick (born in Ypsilanti) with the Meijer’s reference. *sniff* I didn’t get to go to Meijer’s when I was in MI a coupla weeks ago. Hopefully next time.
It has been really warm here too, so my husband didn’t grumble too much when I asked him to put ours up too. He ran to the store to get a few more lights and then went crazy and proceeded to “Griswald” our house. I feel like we are a huge spectacle and not necessarily in a good way. I’ll probably post some pictures soon on my blog. Your house looks great!
No decorations up yet…but I want to get back to your first point.
Your husband earns “sex-when-he-wants-it” points for something as simple as letting you go shopping by yourself?!?!?!?
We did most of the decorations this weekend. The only ones left are the big yard ones.
I’m pretty sure it’s completely bogan to admit this but I put my lights up I think about 2 Christmases ago. Then they became Easter lights. Then I always have a Christmas in July party (cos that’s when it’s winter here) so we thought we may as well leave them up for that. Then time got away from me and it was almost Christmas again so I left them. Repeat cycle. Oh, and each of the Christmases I have added MORE lights. Last week when my brother and I picked apples for cider, we did it by the light of the flashing rope lights because the sun went down before we started. heh. Maybe this year I will bring them down after Christmas….
RWA-Considering that I do 99% of our family’s shopping for food, household goods and clothes, getting a few hours to myself to shop can be quite the mood-setter. And BTW, next time you comment can you check your URL? The link goes to the Blogger error page. Thank you!
OtherBear-HA! Sounds like you’ve got the Christmas spirit all year round.
No. Decorating. At. All. This is the year we start alternating between my parents and his parents for Christmas. No sense in pulling the lights out of storage since we’ll be in Toronto for 10 days. I’m sad, “our first Christmas” was perfectly decorated last year.
