Look! I haven’t disappeared! I’m SO SORRY for the complete lack of posts, friends. I’d like to blame it on Christmas craziness, but I’m doing quite well at keeping up with holiday demands. No, what is taking up every spare second of my time and every ounce of energy I have is this:
That’s right, Kaitlyn has started walking. And walking, and walking, and walking. My days are now spent walking with her from room to room, stopping to play briefly with whatever is at eye level, and then walking some more. Oh yeah, and her regular as a clock nap schedule? Ha. These days, her morning nap might start at 9:00, or 11:00, or not at all, and her afternoon nap, when she takes one, could be anywhere from 1:00 to 3:00. Since I never know when or for how long she will nap, I can’t plan to do much more than the basics-laundry, dishes, bill-paying, quick trips for groceries.
There is, however, one bright spot, one new thing she has started doing that fills me with so much joy it almost hurts. My independent, I’d-rather-be-left-alone baby has become a snuggle bug. When she isn’t walking, she reaches out with her tiny hands and grabs the front of my shirt, then pulls herself in to envelop me. She lays flat against my chest, arms around mine with her head on my shoulder. She hums a tuneless, happy song…”HMMmmm, HMMmmm, hmmmMM”. I stand there holding her, swaying back and forth and humming along with her, and for that moment I am more in love with her than ever.
So that is what I’ve been up to, along with throwing Nathan a birthday party, attending a Choir Concert and a School “Winter Wonderland” party (which was all kinds of lame), and then there’s the fact that TODAY is Nathan’s actual Eighth birthday, but it’s also the day that the school is having their classroom Christmas parties, so I’ll be baking brownies tonight for him to take in tomorrow. Then there’s the weekend and wrapping all the presents, then Christmas Eve at my Dad’s (with my brother and his yucky girlfriend), then Christmas Day. WHEW.
I still have Christmas cards to mail, so if you left me a comment or sent me an email with your address, I promise your card is coming. Probably not before Christmas, but a card, nevertheless. Because you are special to me! Yes, YOU!
P.S. I tried to put a YouTube video of Kaitlyn walking in this post, but it turned to background color blue (?) and moved all the text over into the right sidebar (?). I’ve done it before, so I have no idea why it didn’t work this time. Here’s the link if you want to watch it!
Sounds like you are spending your time in just the right way. How sweet.
She’s so cute!
They sure grow fast.
Sounds like you’re busy, but having fun and enjoying the holidays.
Those are great pictures. I am sure she is all over the place with her newly-developed “talent.”
I seem to have misplaced my extra energy too, and it happened right around the time Oliver started walking. Hmmm…
As much as I love reading your posts, I guess spending time with your kids is more important. If you happen to find your extra energy maybe hiding with my extra energy, can you tell it to come back to me? Have a great holiday!
Hooray for walking! Katie is getting braver and braver, but she doesn’t walk very far yet. I got your card - thanks so much!
I can’t think of a better way to expend energy.
She is adorable!
I don’t have any energy either. Merry Christmas anyway!
Christmas is crazy! I feel horrible! I haven’t been around much either!!
Look at how cute she is! Tooooo adorable!!!
I feel you on the whole just-the-basics thing. They’re so cute, but so time-consuming. ![]()
Yay! Walking is definitely one of those good news - bad news situations. But, how adorable! And the snuggling? Sigh… the snuggling. How nice!
Cho chweet!!! Really very cute!
