is an iPod Shuffle!!!!!

How awesome is that! Pretty damn awesome, I’ll say. He went to the Apple Store with all those cool gadgets and only bought something for ME. He says it’s my “pre-birthday” present. My actual present will have to wait until the day after my birthday when he gets paid, because I went and spent all the money from this paycheck on stupid stuff like heat and water and electricity. Don’t you think you should get free utilities for the month of your birthday?
So now I have to load my iPod with music. Unfortunately, our home music collection is mostly Classic Rock, Jazz and Classical, which doesn’t exactly put pep in my step when I’m walking around the track at the Y. What I need is fun music with a good beat, and that’s where you come in. In your comment, tell me what music you like to work out too. Send me a link to a playlist if you want. To give you an idea of what I like, here’s what I have so far:
“Can’t Get You Out of My Head”-Kylie Minogue
“If You Want To Be My Lover”-Spice Girls
“Here It Goes Again”-OK Go
And that’s it so far. I’m looking forward to your suggestions!
P.S. I’ve been uploading a lot of photos to my Flickr page, have you checked them out?

Hello and welcome to Table for Five! I'm Elizabeth, and this blog started in September 2005 as a way for me to participate in the Mommy Blogging community. I'm married with three terrific kids-boys ages 11 and 9 and a 2 year old daughter. Things I love include my family, coffee, Diet Coke, TV, reading, and Target.
Please contact me at table4five AT gmail DOT com if you would like to discuss anything I've posted here, place a text or button ad, send me a product to review, or provide a guest post. Thank you for stopping by!
I got an iPod for Xmas, and I LOVE IT. Have you considered putting vintage Madonna on it? Very peppy. Missy Elliot is good for pep, too.
I have to admit that I LOVE working out to Kelly Clarkson - great beat, catchy lyrics, just hard enough to make me walk/run/ellipses(?) faster.
Let’s see…upbeat for exercising…with those types of artists.
I’ll have to think about this one.
But, congratulations on the gift! I love my iPod. I can’t imagine being without one now.
Email me and when I get home tonight I’ll send you my gym playlist.
also, check out Y’s lists and suggestions from her readers (last two entries of December)at Joy Unexpected (link on my blog roll).
*Slaps forehead* Of course Y would have lists of gym music! She’s the Aerobic Dancing Queen, after all.
nice gift! I need to make some mixes for myself, so I’ll burn you a copy. Madonna will be included;-)
My husband did an Ironman this summer, and they played lots of Coldplay. Now, when I steal my husband’s Ipod to run, I always play Coldplay because I start thinking I AM one of those really cool athletes that I will never be.
Sweet Jesus, Elizabeth. I really do need to send you that cd I promised you a mere six months ago.
Luckily for you, I found your address yesterday. Unluckily, I am astoundingly lazy.
speaking og Dancing Queen… How about Abba? Or speaking of the Y… how about Village People? And speaking of Madonna… English Beat?? Bob Marley? George Michael? Am I totally dating myself or what?? Aretha Franklin? Elvis? Gypsy Kings? (Salsa’ish)
All right already… and by the way I have never worked out to these tunes, just random names that sounded good.
Keep ‘em coming, everybody! And if you’re looking for inspiration yourself, read the comments on Joy Unexpected’s post from December 26th. I’ve already started a list of possible downloads.
Oh, yes indeedy I love my iPod too! I like the whole of the Kaiser Chiefs “Employment” album - excellent for stomping away too. If stomping is your style….
I love Rob Thomas. Still getting on dh about downloading his latest album. Grrr. My 3yo even knows when RT comes on the radio (I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that I always crank it up…). And back in college and shortly after, I had an LFO cd that was always in my discman. Totally brainless peppy stuff. I kinda miss it, actually.
I would *not* suggest slow-ish Maroon 5… super angry Avril… and there’s something else on my MP3 player that always trips me up (dh loaded it for me and I haven’t deleted the odd ones yet).
PS - I love how you admitted to the Spice Girls - that was one of my favorite songs back then and I was tormented because of that.
I just finished adding a bunch of “they make me feel happy and loved because they’re from my earliest childhood” selections to my iPod. My mom had music on all the time when I was little, and she had impeccable taste. And since iTunes does not carry any Beatles (curse you, Michael Jackson!), which was the bulk of what we listened to, I had a rare splurge and added all the songs I loved as a three-year-old. You read that right. Lots of Credence Clearwater Revival, Three Dog Night, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Ike & Tina Turner, Joe Cocker and Mad Dogs and Englishmen…oh, so happy-making. So happy-making.
Gee, I must be a super dag then, I think I would use stuff like the faster Billy Joel songs and any fast paced 80’s music. Oh, and since I read your post I have had ‘Here It Goes Again - OK Go’ on the brain. Thanks!
How about some KD Tunstell…Black Horse and the Cherry Tree is one of my favorites.
But, I actually workout better listening to information so I tend to put podcasts on my ipod. itunes also has some workout categories on it.
I checked out your pictures. CUTE!!!
Oh, I love my shuffle. Congrats on yours.
I probably will have some recs for you, but it might take me a bit — still sloughing through all my unread posts in Bloglines.
Hey Elizabeth! I got your comment and I thought it was nice “meeting” you as well.
Glad you got the ipod and wish you were able to come with your husband to experience the joy that is the MOA. Heh.
I have found it extremely helpful to check out CDs from our local library and upload songs to my ipod from there. I have been able to recreate most of my high school music experiences through that.

You may already be familiar with her, but if not, she’s a mom who has lost (I believe) around 50 pounds in the last year through exercise and diet. She talks a lot about how important music was to her exercise regimen and she suggests some playlists. Good luck!
Silent Alarm by Bloc Party. the whole album is perfect for any kind of fast paced work out. Plus, it’s good.
New reader and thought I’d pitch in a few suggestions for “Get Up and MOVE” music.
I in fact, have a playlist on my iPod by that same name that I use for exercising.
Lonely No More - Rob Thomas
Groove is in the Heart - Deee-Lite
Hips Don’t Lie - Shakira
Every You, Every Me - Placebo
Gone - Kelly Clarkson
It’s Raining Men - Geri Halliewell
Watch Me Shine - Joanna Pacitti (Legally Blonde Soundtrack)
Ride On Time - Black Box
One More Time - Daft Punk
Rock Your Body - Justin Timberlake
Outside - George Michael
I am back up there with Tricia - old school. I do have some Village People on my workout set. And James Brown - “I Feel Good!” And some funk - “Tear the roof off the mutha” and “Brickhouse…” because you can’t not move when they are singing “She’s a brick…HOUSE, mighty mighty, lettin’ it all hang out,” LOL
I’m pretty much funk and R&B all the way, and one of my favorite workout songs is One Two Step by Ciara. Although it always makes me want to dance which has resulted in some close calls on the treadmill. Also - any old school Janet Jackson gets my ass off the couch.
I HIGHLY recommend the SCISSOR SISTERS.
Get a little rockin Disco in your iPod. You’ll move.
Fast.
I could sit here all night listing songs. Eff that. I’m going to make you a mix. It might take a little while but eventually you will get the most kick ass mix of tunes.
Can’t go wrong with much of the pop music from the 80’s. For working out, I also love Shakira. “Hips Don’t Lie” makes me want to dance every time I hear it.
Happy Almost 40! You will LOVE the iPod :o) A great whole album to work out to is Prince’s Purple Rain or RHCP Blood, Sugar, Sex Magik.
