Too Cool for Old School

Author: Elizabeth

I’m back, on an IBM ThinkPad which is surprisingly comfortable to use. I need to share this conversation I overheard between my boys yesterday morning, while they were packing their lunches for school:

Nathan: I’m glad Mom bought us Pizza Lunchables; ham and cheese is so old school.

Ryan: Nathan, you’re only in the second grade. How can you call something “old school” when you haven’t even been to school that much?

Nathan: Ham and cheese was like the first Lunchable ever. It’s so lame, it’s old school.

Ryan: You’re crazy! Ham and cheese is a CLASSIC.

*giggle* how stinkin’ cute – give the boys a big smooch from their Auntie :) We’ll be up there in March to visit, not sure what weekend yet though so if there’s one that’s better for you guys than another – or Dad (I’ll call him to find out) let us know.

    Love ya!

Oddly, I’m having the same level of discussions as second graders. Hmm.

Kids talking about “old school” and “classics.”

Oh, that is so CUTE and funny, too! :)

  9. Did you explain that “old school” is a favorable description, as is “classic”?Perhaps you could suggest “retro” as a synonym as well.

“Lame” on the other hand…an appropriate synonym there would be “passe” or “out of style”.

Anyway, they crack me up! I look forward to overhearing such conversations!!

  10. That is too funny! I love it. It is like the other day my five year old little princess called cousin a “cute little kid”! I just about burst from holding back laughter.
