A few days ago, I posted a request for help on the WordPress forum, because I couldn’t figure out how to have the pages with my paid posts not display the BlogHer ad code in the sidebar. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
Boy, did I get some help. And, had the pleasure of making the (virtual) acquaintance of Dave Zemens of Stoney Creek Web Designs in Rochester, Michigan. After exchanging almost two dozen emails, Dave ended writing a piece of PHP code for me to insert into the Sidebar widget that contains the BlogHer ad code. You can see how it works by first looking at my sidebar on this page, and then clicking on this link for a paid post page. See how the ads aren’t at the top of the sidebar? Very, very cool.
As if that wasn’t enough, then Dave wrote a post on his site about helping me, and you know what he said? He called Table for Five “America’s Mommy Blog”!! That is the biggest compliment I have ever received from anyone about my blog. And, AND, he called my writing “interesting” and “unique”. This is me, blushing!!
In case you’re wondering, Dave is also a retired police officer. And a professional. Before I gave him access to my site I Googled his name and looked carefully at his website to determine if he was legit. As should anyone who is contacted by someone they don’t know.
I’m totally putting Table for Five-America’s Mommy Blog on my business cards for BlogHer. And on some buttons, and maybe a t-shirt. How much does it cost to hire a plane to fly over my house pulling a banner with that written on it? Hmmm……

That’s one of the best compliments I’ve heard!
It was my pleasure to help you with your WordPress problem, Elizabeth. Unfortunately it took me longer to make the fix than I thought, and in the meantime I had your sidebar all botched up!
Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated!
Now, about the banner airplane …
Cool! And I can honestly say that you’ve been passing the good on. Thanks for all your help getting started with PPP!!
You ARE America’s Mommy Blog. How awesome is that?
I had a similar experience this week with Mister Linky, they guy who writes the “add your link” code that everyone uses for Thursday Thirteen. I have a project I’ve been working on and he has been UNFRICKENBELIEVABLY helpful in customizing a widget for me and has worked tirelessly to debug it and get it just right. Mister Linky ROCKS!!!
That is a great compliment – and well deserved!
I’m glad you found someone with the expertise and willingness to help you.
Nobody deserves that compliment more than you do – you are America’s Mommy Blog!
It’s awesome that you were able to find someone who could help you with your problem so easily.
Honest to Pete…you are so funny. That’s great though. Can I borrow Dave to figure out my whole blog? I cannot do anything with mine. I am a computer IDIOT!!!
That is because you totally rock!
Well, I’m new here but I can still tell you’re awesome early on.
AND, I’m just a TINY bit jealous that you’re going to blogher and I’m not so I won’t get to meet you there. But DUDE. One year I won’t be having a baby a month before Blogher. One of these days…
