Because I have an appointment tomorrow to have a mammogram! That’s right, the girls are getting squished. I’m trying not to get too worked up about it, but I keep recalling things I’ve read about how painful it is. I need you to tell me in your comment, have you had a mammogram? Was it painful? I know there’s nothing I can do about it, but I might as well go into it prepared. The appointment is at 9:00 a.m.; should I plan on having a little Bailey’s in my coffee that morning just to calm my nerves?
Oh yeah, and Kaitlyn will have to go with me. So she will get to watch from her stroller as my gigantic breasts get flattened. Let’s hope it doesn’t scar her for life.

I had to have a mammogram last year — I honestly didn’t think it was as bad as I’d expected. Yes, it’s definitely uncomfortable for a few seconds at a time, but the most difficult part for me was the personal space thing (standing so close to someone when I hadn’t been able to wear deodorant or powder). If you have an experienced technician, it should go smoothly and quickly. Good luck!
I’ve heard it hurts. But if you’re used to your kids jumping on you and accidentally twisting your nipples, well, my guess is you’ll be fine. And hey, at least it’s not a colonoscopy or prostate exam though…
I’ve never had one so I can’t help you there…but go ahead and add the Baileys. Yum.
I haven’t had one, but just wanted to encourage you on the Baileys thing.
I just had one a few months ago (I am only 33, but I have lumpy breasts…what a thing to admit on the internet…giggle, giggle). It really wasn’t that bad at all except for the above mentioned issues with people playing with your breasts. I have very little breasts and I had heard that it would hurt even more, but seriously, it was just uncomfortable. But, really it is not even as uncomfortable as the annual trip to the girlie doctor. I hope yours go well.
I’ve had a mammo every year for the last 10 years. I am big-breasted. It was a bit uncomfortable 2-3 minutes at most, from the time the tech sets it up, stands behind the screen to protect her, and takes the x-ray.
My grandmother died from breast cancer at the tender age of 58 (I’m 55 myself) so I make sure I go, no excuses.
But remember this, and this is most important, breast self-exam is a must. Waiting 12 months between mammos and doing nothing in-between just isn’t worth the risk. Also, I have a breast exam done by my doctor as well … so that he can see what’s going on in between mammos.
Don’t worry. It will be over and done with in less than 10 minutes for both the girls. And, the techs are used to women having a musky smell because they can’t use deodorants. I’m very fortunate because I do not use deodorant ever because for some reason I don’t need it (trust me, my husband would tell me if I did, along with my boss, my friends, etc.).
I have had several mammos and it is a little uncomfy but nothing compared to, say childbirth, which I believe you have some experience in. Not as uncomfortable as dental work or a bad headache or an earache. It only lasts a little while. The worst part for me is that I have cystic breasts and keep having to have biopsies and other follow-ups, which has been a real pain.
Go. Do it. Be healthy.
Well, since I don’t really have boobs per say, yes, it was very painful. For me, because of all the pulling and stretching to find something to put under the plate. Yah, not a pretty picture. Sorry, I’m no help.

I have had two mammograms and what I felt was a little discomfort while they press our breasts in the machine but I can’t considered it pain. It was easier than I thought.
Don’t stress, it only takes a few minutes. Relax is the best option. Good Luck.
I (hopefully) won’t be there for quite some time yet, so it’s nice to know it’s not that bad. I like to have other things to compare it to, like a headache or something.
I’m only 26 and have had TWO mammograms already. They say it hurts more the younger your boobies are, but it wasn’t TOO bad. So, you’ll be fine!
Haven’t had one yet. Just over a month now. I think you should go with the Bailey’s. Or better yet, how about a shot of whiskey? LOL
I agree with Chris, less (breast) is more……painful!
It’s not too bad though, over in seconds.
So, I guess I really am forty (one) .
Good luck!
This is definately something I can help you with for obvious reasons. I can still wish you the nest of luck and hope your mammogram works out fine.
I forgot to say if you didn’t have the Baileys before the appt. have it now:)
Good for you. I hope that it goes/went well.
I am 54, so I have been having mamograms for quite a while. And let me tell you, they hurt. There is no getting around it. They hurt. The first time, I thought I would be in pain and black and blue for ages, but once the mammogram is over, the pain goes away and you are not sore or anything. And it is so worth it to do something that could, just possibly, keep you alive for your family. So do it every year and check them in between times.
oh lord! my boobs are pathetic small flaps (except for now, while I am Lactator Girl). This is scawwwey…(!)
I just had mine done today for the first time also. It didn’t hurt at all. I was slightly nervouse before hand since I couldn’t imagine how she would fit my mosquito bites on there.
I asked her about the pain, and she said it shouldn’t be painful and if it is that the tech isn’t compressing slow enough.
Hope yours went equally as well
