Weekend Cleaning Update

Well, so far, it is not going at ALL according to plan. I had this image of me merrily twirling my way through the house, dusting and straightening and filling bags with trash and stuff for Goodwill. Uh, yeah, NO. So far I managed to clean off two shelves of our small linen closet, throw away three pieces of trash from the top of the sideboard, and prevent Kaitlyn from spraying our TV with a chemical meant to clean pet urine out of carpet.

It is damn near IMPOSSIBLE to throw anything away when there is a toddler in the house! They are FASCINATED by trash cans, trash bags, wastebaskets-any kind of waste receptacle. I try putting things IN, she comes right along beside me and takes them right back OUT! She does like to dust, however, and is surprisingly good at using the Swiffer Duster to clean the top of the TV stand and along the entertainment center. Now if I could just get her to fold and put away the laundry….

Maybe you could hang her on a hook on the back of the bathroom door. Just till you get a bit of cleaning done. And maybe for a bit longer after that while you sit down afterwards and have a nice uninterrupted cup of coffee.

I feel your pain. The way I try to think of it is that your two shelves and three pieces of trash is better than nothing!

    Off to spring-clean myself…

Got yourself a feather duster? Give it to Kaitlyn. She’ll dust everything in the house, including you.
I’ve also heard of folks trying a rag or mop-like thing to their dog or crawling child’s belly to dust/dry mop the floor as well. Might as well put ‘em to work… ;)

Oh, yeah… I hate cleaning with my kids around too… they like to “Help” — I have to then go back and clean the toilet water off the floor (again) because everyone knows how much “fun” it is to twirl the (stinky nasty) toilet brush about in the toilet water … and then pretend it’s your lightsaber… (gag…)
