I have never had any luck buying things from online auctions. It seems like no matter how many times I raise my bid price, someone else beats me by a penny at the last second. And it drives me crazy to see how much people end up paying for things like plastic toys from fast-food places that I know they could have bought for a dollar. So I was really, really surprised to see how the new site bid4prizes works. Instead of bidding the highest price you will pay, you bid the LOWEST price. You win when you bid the lowest unique price, meaning no one else has bid that amount. These are no plastic toys either, the current auction items are an Apple iPhone, a 50 inch Samsung Plasma TV, and a new Scion XB!
It works like this: The current bid prices on the Apple iPhone are between 318 cents and 338 cents. Let’s say for each of those prices there are at least two bids, but only one person has bid 340 cents. When the auction ends, the person who bid 340 cents wins! This part is a little confusing, the rules say that the winner doesn’t actually pay their winning bid for the prize, just shipping costs and any applicable taxes. Of course, I imagine the shipping costs for a new car are pretty considerable, but think of how cool it would be to tell someone you paid four dollars for a new car! I’d love to know what you think about this site, and tell me if you decide to bid on something!
