Disclaimer: I can not guarantee that your blog will be approved, nor can I predict how much money you will make. It is important that you read the Terms of Service very carefully before deciding if PayPerPost is right for you.
I’ve received so many emails and comments about how I got started with PayPerPost that I decided to write it here so everyone can see just how it works. As for how I got started, I was looking for a way to pay for my trip to BlogHer this summer, and I read a post on a friend’s blog about how she was making money writing for PayPerPost. After asking her lots of questions in emails, and reading through many of the threads on the PPP forums, I decided to give it a try. Here are the steps to follow:
- The first thing you need to know is that your blog MUST be at least 90 days old and have at least 20 ORIGINAL posts on it, and the posts can not all be in the same month. So, if your blog is 90 days old but you haven’t updated it in a month, you’ll need to start posting to it regularly. Your blog will not be approved if it is primarily reader polls, quizzes, or YouTube videos. PPP is looking for quality writing on frequently updated blogs.
- To start, if you are reading this on Maya’s Mom, click this link: http://table4five.net.Why do I want you to click my blog? Because there is a badge on the top right of my sidebar that will take you right to PayPerPost. And in the interest of full disclosure, if your blog gets approved, you write a post and that gets approved, when you get paid, I get a $15.00 referral credit!
- So, click that link to my blog, click the PPP badge, and that takes you to the main page. Click the middle section that says Bloggers, which will take you to the Bloggers Overview page. It is important that you read this page all the way through! Near the bottom on the right are the “Requirements of Note”, also known as the Terms of Service. Read those very carefully as well.
- You will see that you need to have a Disclosure Policy on your blog. DisclosurePolicy.org was created by PPP to make it very easy to create your policy. You can link to it from a button in your sidebar or in a new page tab at the top of your blog, it just needs to be there.
- FYI, you will also need a PayPal account, because that is how PPP pays out.
- Once you have read all the way through, click the link at the bottom of the page that reads “Get Started Today!”
- The next screen is for your name, email, basic info. After that, I believe, is a page where you will give more info about your blog, and you will need to select your blog categories. It is important to choose your categories carefully since they filter out the ads that you don’t qualify for. I believe right now you can select one General Category and three specialized categories. For example, I have General Living, Household/Parenting, and Shopping/Product Reviews for my blog.
- Once you have filled everything in, it will take anywhere from 48 to 72 business hours for your blog to be reviewed and either accepted or rejected.Assuming you are approved, you will have your own Blogger Dashboard at PayPerPost. Near the top of the screen will be a tab marked “Open Opportunities”. Click it to go to the “View Opportunities” page. You will see two blue buttons, one marked “All Opportunities”, and one marked “Qualified Opportunities”. Click the second one to see ads that you are qualified to take!
- Look through the list, and if you see one that looks interesting, click the link. You will be on the Opportunity Details page. It is very important to read it carefully! There will be a description of the opportunity that tells what the advertiser is looking for. Under that, will be a box labeled “link”. This URL MUST BE IN YOUR POST, COPIED EXACTLY. For WordPress users, on your Write Post page, use the “Code” tab to enter the URL so that the anchor text is correct. There might also be a custom tracking image, which needs to be at the bottom of the post, it also goes in the “code” section. Scroll all the way down in case the advertiser also wants an image in the post.
- Look back up at the top of the page, on the right side. You will see a button marked “Take Opportunity”. Click it, and you will go to another page. Now sometimes, while you were reading all the details, so was someone else, and they might have clicked that button a second before you. If that is the case, you will get what we call the RLOD-Red Letters Of Death-which means that it will say “all available opportunities have been taken”. If so, you will need to go back and select another opportunity.
- If you DON”T see the RLOD, then the opp is yours, and the page says “I understand the following must be met to satisfy the offer”. Look on the right side of the page to see how many words are required, the post type, and the tone. That means whether you are required to only write positive things, or if it’s okay to be neutral. If you aren’t comfortable with having to be positive about the topic, don’t take the opp.
- NOW, what I recommend doing is opening a NEW WINDOW or TAB on your screen. That way you can easily refer back to the Opportunity Details if you need to. Write your post, making sure to include the link and any other requirements.
- Back on the “I understand the following” page, you will need to fill in the EXACT URL of your post, i.e. the permalink. It will also ask for the title of your post. At the bottom of the page is a box to check that you agree to the Terms of service, and then one last “take opportunity” button. Click it, and you are done!
- You will get an email when your post is approved. Be patient, this could take as long as two weeks! If your post is rejected, they will tell you exactly why, and you will have three days to fix whatever is wrong and resubmit the post.
- WHEN DO YOU GET PAID?? If your post is approved, your payment will come 30 days from the date you wrote the post, give or take based on weekends and holidays.
Still interested?? I think I’ve covered everything, but if you have ANY questions, please feel free to email me at elizabeth@table4five.net, or pass me a note on Maya’s Mom. There is no such thing as a “dumb” question, just a question you don’t know the answer to yet, so ask! I am enthusiastic about this because it works, if you put work into it. You will need to treat paid blogging like your JOB. It will take hours to find posts, write them, submit them, post questions in the forums, join blogrolls and link exchanges-but it will pay off! Good luck to everyone, I hope you have as much fun writing for PayPerPost as I do!

I don’t have a post yet about how to build traffic, because I’m afraid I’m not very good at it myself. Tell you what, I’ll do some research on the topic and plan a post on it soon! Thanks for the suggestion!
