BlogHer blogging

Author: Elizabeth

There are still more than two months to go until BlogHer, and I’m already starting to get excited about it! For those of you who aren’t able to come this year, I am taking my laptop and plan to post as often as possible. However, the success of that plan will depend largely on whether or not this year’s conference has adequate wireless access. Every session last year had rows of people sitting in folding chairs with their laptops open, only to constantly get the “No connection available” message. It was so frustrating. The hotel rooms were supposed to come equipped with network cables to let us use the hotel’s internet access, but our hotel room didn’t have one. This year I’ll be prepared with Ethernet cables, and hopefully an Air card, which is like a calling card for your phone except for internet access. Let’s just hope the conference center is prepared for 700 people all logging in at once!

I”m certain the host establishment has some idea of what the demands on their system will be. (Though I’m not sure anyone could ever be prepared for that kind of activity.) I’m sure you’ll have a lovely time, and don’t feel bad if you can’t blog it all (Kidding. You should feel terrible if you’re not checking in every hour or so.)

Yeah, the connectivity (or lack thereof) last year was awful. Thankfully, I thought enough ahead to buy an Ethernet cable for such emergencies. Even then the connectivity was spotty. It can only be better this year, right?

    Still hoping I can go.

I’m hoping this year’s venue is more aware of the challenges of hosting a high-tech event. I think last year’s hotel might not have had that much experience with it.
