My friend Melissa from Melissa’s Place, who is 38 weeks pregnant and the baby has dropped and I’m so excited for her!, and Cara, from Inner Game Geek, tagged me for a meme. And so did go-go Snoopy! These are the rules:
“Each person posts the rules before their list, then they list 8 things about themselves. At the end of the post, that person tags and links to 8 other people and then visits those peoples’ sites and comments letting them know that they have been tagged, and to come read the post, so they know what they have to do.”
1. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a librarian when I grew up. I would still love to work in a library or bookstore.
2. I have a degree in Litigation Management from the Institute for Paralegal Training in Philadelphia. Which I never used.
3. I went to Albion College for two years, and made a whole lot of really bad choices while I was there. I went through Sorority Rush along with every other female freshman, but what I didn’t know was that the FIVE Sororities were only taking a total of about twenty girls. I did not get a bid, and I still have serious issues about it.
4. Instead, I rushed Sigma Alpha Iota, the professional Sorority for women in music. I was taking choir every semester, so that counted. I got to wear a pledge ribbon on a pin, participate in Derby Days, take a test naming the original chapter members and a bunch of other stuff I forgot right away, and then go through the big ceremony. Without SAI, I would have been seriously despondent. But then I left Albion and went to MSU, where you had to actually be a music major to participate in SAI. I still have my pin though.
5. I used to be a pretty heavy pot smoker, like, every night. I see no difference between someone coming home from work and cracking open a few beers, and someone sitting down to smoke a bowl, except the bowl-smoker isn’t going to get in the car and run over a little kid on his bike on the way to the store. If someone offered me pot right now, I would take it. Of course, the kids would have to go someplace else for the night…or the weekend
6. In my MSU days, Chris and I hung out with his high school friend Kirk, who was the guitarist for Fat Amy, the East Lansing band that featured singer Bob Guiney, from The Bachelor! I don’t remember Bob at all, but we were stoned a lot back then
7. My other “famous” connection- my stepbrother Carlton Fluker is a Hollywood actor and stuntman! He did stunts in “You Got Served” and “Jarhead”. I can’t post his photo though, because he is very careful about how he appears in photographs.
8. Let’s see, what else? When I had my first bridal shower at my parents’ house, my Mother surprised me by presenting me with four dolls- and there’s a story. My first doll was from Madame Alexander, but it had a soft beanbag body and it was meant to be cuddled with. I slept with it tucked under my chin every night, and I would rub the doll’s hair between my fingers, until I wore most of the hair right off the doll (except for a “mohawk” at the top!). When the doll got worn out, my Mom would buy me another one, and sneak into my room while I was asleep and replace the old doll with a new one. This would have been when I was around two. So I would wake up in the morning with a new doll, and my Mom would tell me that the doll fairy came and “fixed” my doll while I was sleeping. I had a total of three dolls and then guess I lost interest in them or found something else to sleep with, I’m not sure. I knew my Mom kept the dolls in her cedar chest, but I hadn’t thought to ask her for them or anything. At my bridal shower, she gave me the three old dolls and one new one, to represent both my old life as a child and my new one as a wife! It was truly the most touching thing she ever did for me.
Now I have to tag eight people. Hmmm. People I think will be willing to do a meme…I’ll tag:
Cass
Kat
CyberCelt
Jo
Cynthia
Dana
Angie
Skeet

Love the last story… so sweet!
Mimi- Thanks! I was going to tag you for the meme, but I figured with getting ready to come to Michigan and all, you would be too busy. But by all means please do it if you have the time! Nathan is SO excited about coming to your parents’ house next week!
It’s still one of my fondest dreams, to own a bookstore…
And you were going to mention this to me when?
Too late anyway because I already did it, so nani-nani-boo-boo!
Stuff about Skeet
The doll story is so sweet!
Catherine- Have you seen “You’ve Got Mail”? Meg Ryan’s character owns the tiny children’s book store full of plush storybook toys? THAT is the bookstore I wish I could own!
Skeet- I’m sorry, I thought I left you a comment about it! Coming over now to read your answers!
Mimi- Thanks, it really was. I have photos, I just need to get them scanned in.
Melissa- Thanks! I’ll post photos when I get them scanned.
Aww, number 8 made me cry! I guess I’m kind of emotional when it comes to moms, and the wonderful things they do for us. Makes me miss mine even more.
I was in SAI too. I was the president of my chapter for two years.
Me too for #5. Between pregnancy and breastfeeding, it’s already been almost a year since I smoked and it will probably be another year since I’m not going to smoke until Myles is weaned. Sigh.
Ruthie- My Mother passed away in 1997, and I do miss her sometimes. I’m sorry to hear that you lost your Mom as well.
Sarah- No way! Do you still have your Pan Flute pin?
(Oops, was that a secret?)
Tammie- And it used to be SO easy to get when we lived near the M.S.U. campus, too. I SWEAR there was a downtown sandwich shop that had certain delivery guys who made “special” deliveries
I cannot figure out if mytrackbaks are working
