You all remember that I took my husbands big-ass camera to BlogHer, right? His Canon 10D with the 50mm lens and a sun shield to keep out glare? And it weighed, I don’t know, 25 pounds? Yeah. All weekend people kept saying things like “wow, that is a serious camera”, and you know what I was doing? Accidentally turning it OFF with my thumb, and then thinking the batteries must have died because it wouldn’t turn on. I have much to learn.
I took a 1 GB card with me, so I didn’t need to download it at all while I was there. But I should have, because then I would have realized all the people I didn’t get a photo with, like Tracey from PictureThis, who helped me get comfortable with the camera at Speaker Training. Or Sarah, from Sarah and the Goon Squad, and Devra from Parentopia, who were everywhere all weekend and yet not once did I think to actually photograph them. So I’ll be trolling Flickr looking for photos to grab and add to my Flickr set (with permission, of course). Next year, I’ll just make a list.
So, who did I meet? Let me introduce you to my roommates first. I had no idea what it would be like to share a hotel room with three other women who I barely knew, but I’ll tell you this-it was fantastic. We just clicked, and truly enjoyed each other’s company. This is from Saturday night, having dinner on the Navy Pier together:
On the left is Dana from
The Dana Files, and BlogHer contributing editor, in the middle is Shannon from
Believer in Balance, and on the right is Liz from
This Full House, and also a BlogHer contributing editor. The sheer force of writing skill and talent in this photo, it blows me away. Dana has one son, Shannon has three daughters, and Liz has three daughters and one son! We shared our labor and delivery stories and told how we came up with our children’s names, we took turns sharing ONE bathroom, and I hope they will be my roommates next year too! Here we are stuffing our faces with what is called “Fried Dough”:

I have more photos taken in our room, but I uploaded them to Adobe Photoshop Album, and now I can’t get them OUT. My husband will help me with them tonight, and then the uploading will continue. Plus, posts about what I thought of Chicago, how thrilled I was with the conference itself, what a great job I think Jory, Elisa, Lisa, and Kristy did organizing everything, and more thoughts about how this year’s conference has influenced where I see myself going professionally in the next year. So many post topics! Wheee!
Edited to add: Additional photos have now been uploaded, once I figured out that I could just drag and drop the photos from Photoshop Album to the Flickr Uploadr. You can view them on my Flickr page, and feel free to add me to your contacts!

And if Shannon pops over here, I’ll tell her she’s too damn adorable! But I love ‘er anyway.

Hey girl,
there’s something wrong with your feed.
Every single new post you’ve written shows up in my feed with the correct title, but the winnie the pooh baby shower/party entry attached.
Just letting you know.
Yah, hi. I’m SUPER jealous here! But so glad you had such a great time!!
(Oh, and your posts are showing up in my reader just like Kat described…)
I still wish we finished off that fry bread. What a waste. And what are an extra 1,000 calories between friends? Thanks for sharin’.

Kat- That is weird, because when I view my feed in both BlogLines and Google Reader, I see the Baby Shower post feed, then the Hey, everybody! post, then the 20 things I learned at BlogHer post. None of them have the Baby Shower post attached. Are you using a different reader?

Brillig- How’s the blog going? Do you need help? I am an official freelance WordPress guru now, you know
And I don’t know what’s up with the feed, I checked it in Bloglines and Google reader, and I see the baby shower post, the “hey everybody” post, the 20 things I learned at blogher post, and then this latest one. None of them have anything attached. are you using a different reader?

Hi Elisabeth, I can see you had a wonderful time. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Regarding Kat commentary, I have Google Reader and the same is happening to me, Right post Title but Winnie comes always first.
Great seeing you again, Elizabeth. I’m still coming down from all the BlogHer stuff. My head reels.

Karl- I was so happy you were able to go! It’s going to take me at least a few more days to get the shock out of my system, and I still have one bag I haven’t even unpacked yet.
I’m so glad we introduced you to fried dough! It must be a Northeast thing! That evening was a lot of fun!

Shannon- That evening made the whole preceeding day disappear, you know? I loved the pizza, the talking and walking, the fried dough, the walk back to the hotel- remember the bunny that was just sitting there on the grass? And the men hosing down the pedestrian tunnel? It was a great night. Smooches to you and your girls!
