When we first moved in to our house two years ago, I called our cable TV company to switch our service. I reminded them that we wanted HBO, and was told we had to upgrade to Digital Cable in order to keep getting HBO. Oh really?, said my husband. WELL. And the next day, he had me call and order Direct TV.
I was skeptical about it at first, after all, it involves having the Directv Satellite dish bolted directly to your roof. But the channels we got, oh, the channels. We had something like 35 movie channels. Four HBOs! Three channels of Cinemax! Two channels of Showtime! I was in LOVE. And we were introduced to HD channels. If you still don’t have HD programming in your house, you need to get it. Better yet, buy an HD-TV first, and then get the HD channels. It will blow your mind.
Now, although we had to give up and go back to cable-your dish has to point at a satellite, and our neighbor has a tree that is so gigantic, it directly blocks the path between our dish and the closest satellite, I am not even kidding- I still think it is a great option. Click any of the links in this post and look at the programming that is available. 185 channels of pure TV love, people. You can even order a Digital Video Recorder (DVR), and record programming directly from the satellite signal, and save it to the hard drive. No more videotapes ever! We have about 15 hours of Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go on our DVR. If you can’t get cable where you live or want another option, check out Direct Satellite TV!

I have basic cable, why watch it if I can live it>)
We have DirecTV, but I’m seriously considering shutting it off. The price keeps going up, and I’m tired of the garbage that’s on there. I have two impressionable children, they don’t need the smut.

We have DirecTV and LOVE it! We just got an HD TV (I’m going to pick it up today) and can’t wait to see it in HD!
We actually had Dish for a while too and loved it but had to switch since DirecTV is the only one that carries the Sentanta Sports channel that DH needs! But we’ve been very happy with it! The service does not go out nearly as often as others even when storming. And we’ll never go to cable…. not fans of cable here!
We got digital cable. I love it because we need no dish…
From your post i got to know that you are fond of HBO!!Even i love that show!!!! i wud suggest u watchin this series, Fox Prison Break!!! All those who hav watched hav grown crazy for it!!
We have DirectTV, primarily for the sports packages. Cable in our neck of the woods (suburban LA) is a major inconvenience and the price is 50% higher! The dish can definitely be an eye sore, but you can usually ask the installer to mount it in the least conspicuous spot on your property.
