Curse you, broken camera!
I’ve tried not to make too big of a deal out of the fact that my camera is broken. It’s still useable, sometimes. See, my husband dropped it, and it landed on the shutter button. So now the shutter button and the little collar around it are bent, and the button tips down to one side. Sometimes when I press down on it, it stays pressed down and the camera freaks out. Too much input! Also, the zoom doesn’t work that well anymore either, and the auto-focus is shot. So all my photos these days are blurry. Fabulous.
I’m going to need a new camera, there’s no two ways about it. Those of you who saw me at BlogHer know I was hauling around my husband’s Nikon D80, which weighs three pounds. That might not seem a lot, but when you add it to the eleventy-hundred pounds of sponsor gifts, a messenger bag, a laptop bag and a purse, that three pounds might as well have been a hundred.
So now I’m looking for a new camera. And every website I look at wants to assure me that they have the best price. I want to be sure. I’m looking at the site BestBuys.com, which offers a unique form of Best Buy Comparison Reviews. You can see up to five similar items on the same page, with all of the details included. I clicked the Cameras tab and selected Digital Cameras, and then had options to sort my search results by price, resolution, brand, print size, and camera type. While my husband loves his Nikon, he is also a big fan of Canon, and I have always had Canon cameras. I chose my price range, and the 8 mega pixels option, and Canon, and up came the Canon PowerShot A630.
Best Buys is more than just a product comparison site. What you may not realize when you look at a website that claims to have the best deals is that more often than not, the website itself is run by marketers looking to make a profit. So of course they are going to tell you that one product is better than another. BestBuys.com has a new feature called “Fine Print Revealed”, where they compare two products or services side-by-side, and compare not just the product or service but the fine print in the contract or manual. You’ll know exactly what you will be getting. One of their most popular “Fine Print Revealed” reviews is a comparison of video rental services Blockbuster Online versus Netflix. Having read it, I still think Blockbuster Online is the right plan for us.
Check out the site, it’s easy to navigate and helps you make good purchasing decisions. And keep your fingers crossed for me that I can get my new camera soon!

And you can order on line and pick up in the store! Coolest thing ever!

happy labor day weekend
Mimi-BLockbuster Online is perfect for us because there’s a Blockbuster three blocks from our house. And now they let you exchange your movies for half off the price of a video game. We love it!
Hi mod*mom! Thanks so much for stopping by! You have the coolest giveaways on the Internet, for sure. I’m keeping my fingers crossed to win the pink Dyson! Have a great weekend too.
A camera that works ’sometimes’ isn’t much use. Good luck in finding the right camera.
Graham-And there are so many choices, and price ranges, and for me to spend $200 plus dollars on something, I want to get it right, you know? It’s a hard choice for me to make.
Well I hope you won that pink Dyson, they are my favorites!
I have to agree on the Blockbuster, though. Netflix, for me, has just been terrible.
