My pal Kat asked some great questions when I asked for writing topics. She wants to know 1. Why I say that Kaitlyn was the baby we didn’t know we needed to have until we had her, and 2. What I do for myself that is just for me. Great questions!

1. We did not plan to have any of our children. With Ryan, it was more like we stopped preventing pregnancy, with Nathan, I was trying to find a birth control pill that didn’t make me feel sick all the time, and with Kaitlyn-well. You see, I had been on and off different pills for so long, and I was tired of it. Chris was supposed to get a vasectomy after Nathan was born, but I left it up to him to schedule and actually do it, and he never did. I finally went off the pill altogether at the beginning of 2005, and chose the Today Sponge for my birth control. I had used it before, and found it very effective and easy to use. In conjunction with that, I was keeping close track of my cycles. Well, one Saturday afternoon…I could have SWORN we were in a “safe” time of the month. As soon as we finished having sex, Chris said to me, “we had better not have just made a baby”. “No”, I assured him, I’m not even ovulating right now.

When I took the pregnancy test and told Chris and the boys, they were thrilled. It made it so much easier on me to see how excited the boys were at the thought of being big brothers. And once Kaitlyn was born-well, I say she was the baby we didn’t know we needed to have because having her has made each of us a better person.  Working together as a team to take care of this tiny person bonded us closer together as a family, taught the boys more responsibility, and encouraged us to move our lives forward. It’s like, we were a puzzle with a piece missing, and she came along and we were complete.

2. Honestly, blogging is what I do for myself.  Every once in a while I will go to the movies alone, and I do enjoy taking my time at the grocery store on the weekends when I can leave the kids home, but I would say blogging, and the friends I have made, the opportunities I have had, that is just for me.
