I broke my blog last night. Again.

I swear if this keeps up, I’m going back to Blogger. As you all know, I’m having trouble finding a blog theme that looks good in both Firefox and IE (this one that you’re viewing now? Completely borked in IE). I want two sidebars because I would like to have everything on the main page, including my ginormous blogroll of love, my award buttons, my social networking widgets, is that too much to ask? Apparently so. I’ve been searching through the WordPress Codex looking for a 3-column theme that will let me use my old, customized header (the purple one that Chris from Notes from the Trenches designed), and I’m just not having any luck.

I may have to admit that I don’t, in fact, really understand my blog’s files. I broke the blog because I thought I could delete an old theme I don’t use anymore, but I must have highlighted the wrong line of code in FTP before clicking delete, because next thing I knew, all my pages were returning scary-looking strings of error code. Bluehost did a database restore that went back to the morning of the 28th, so I lost four posts and all the comments, including all the excellent comments from the Spider video post. I HATE losing comments!

Oh, and the birthday party sleepover? One kid almost went home because he couldn’t sleep, and another kid did go home, at ONE O’CLOCK in the morning. My husband got the fun job of calling the house to say this boy wanted someone to come and get him. Yippee. Bed at 1:00 AM, up at 7:00 to make French Toast and sausage for eight people. Kitchen’s trashed, but I’m blogging, not cleaning. And contemplating going back to bed after all the kids go home.

glad to hear about the sleep over. sad that one child went home but that is better than keeping him there.

Becky-Sure! Come on over! Or better yet, I’ll get in the car and drive to New York :)

The “secret” to my French Toast? The RECIPE in a copy of the Betty Crocker cookbook from the 80s, it’s my cooking BIBLE. But here’s a tip-to make french toast batter really stick to the bread, add some flour to it. Easy and yummy! I’ll put the recipe on MomCooks later today.

  3. You’re having trouble with that blog. The problem is if something happens that makes it beyond repair.

I’m glad the kids had a good sleepover. I spent last night (and part of this morning) in the ER, fun, I know.
I can offer no advice about the blog…it’s all scary to me!

Graham-The problem is me thinking I can actually make changes to the source files, and that I can just upload any old theme I want :)

Jenn-Oh no, the ER? What happened? Is everyone okay?

Everyone’s fine. I’ve been having some problems with swelling, and yesterday the spot got really red and hot to the touch. Scared me to death! Long story short, it’s cellulitis. I’ll be fine in a week or two if the antibiotics work. Let’s all hope they do!

Jenn, I’m so glad it wasn’t serious, although it sure sounds painful. Go, go, antibiotics!

You may want to get a custom done job. But those do cost. But everything gets put the way you want and less headaches for you.

Lisa-I looked at a custom theme site today, it was $1200.00 for five pages of HTML. Holy Cow. And I would still probably find a way to screw it up :)
