so why is it damn near impossible for me to lose weight? I have been going to Weight Watchers for five weeks now (on Saturday, even, at 7:30 in the morning!), and do you know how much weight I l have lost?
1.8 pounds
I sit there surrounded by ladies in wheelchairs who can’t even move, and they lose four, five, six pounds a week. Meanwhile I’m guzzling water and counting points, and NOTHING.
I probably could teach the stupid class if they asked me. I know all the techniques, all the tricks, all the things you are supposed to visualize happening. I know about portions and asking restaurants not to cook the fish in butter and getting the salad dressing on the side.
But, I still weigh, are you ready for this? I see no reason not to be honest…
178.4
I lost no weight the first week, lost the 1.6 the second week, regained it the third week (thanks to it being ‘that’ time of the month), lost it back the fourth week, and stayed the same the fifth week. I don’t WANT to accept that this is just how it is going to be. I’m only five feet tall, and although I know that having had three kids means I’m likely to never be a size four again, I know, my doctor knows, my blood pressure knows that I HAVE TO LOSE WEIGHT. Forty pounds at LEAST, fifty would be better, fifty-five would be ideal.
One pound a week. It would take one year to get to my goal weight if I could just lose, and keep off, one pound a week. Count the points, drink the water, do the exercise, it’s not hard.
Failing hurts.

If you’re looking at a long term lifestyle change (not diet) then you shouldn’t look at the short term changes. Just keep doing what is right and knowing that it is making an impact. Reading numbers off a scale and getting upset that you don’t see immediate change just hurts your goals.
you’re NOT failing. you are failing to look at the positive side of this. you are NO longer where you used to be and you don’t plan on going back to that stage. Keep on focusing on your goals. don’t be discouraged.
p.s. i’m new to this discussion so, i have to ask what your cardio schedule is??? i can help you out with what jump started my weight loss and helped me to maintain where i am at this point. and NOOOOOOOO i’m not an expert. i just don’t want you to lose sight of the positive part of what you’re going through

Tanyetta-THANK YOU. I need to write that in big letters on a piece of poster board and hang it up where I can see it everywhere I go
My cardio schedule is walking on the treadmill and trying not to quit before I’ve walked for 20 minutes. I am so out of shape it is ridiculous. I would LOVE to see your schedule, thanks!!
You’re not failing! You’ve made progress, it just may take some time to find your groove. Part of growing as a person.
You could also bypass getting weighed more than once a month and go by the fit of pants and such – that way you don’t get to obsess over numbers.

Lanna, thank you for that encouraging comment
Weight Watchers requires weekly weigh ins, and I am going to stick to that for now. It just makes me want to try that much harder. I refuse to believe that my body can not lose weight. I don’t care how long it takes!
Not failing. Just progressing more slowly than YOU would like. Your body obviously has its own agenda. Do the right things and keep doing them. Don’t get discouraged. You are getting healthier no matter what the scale says.

Thanks, Suebob. I know I won’t be perfect, but I’d sure like to see better results than this. I try, and try again, every single day, to do the best I can.

One pound at a time! I know it’s hard and demotivating when the pounds just don’t come off!
Although, have your doc check your hormone levels. You may need some extra help!
Actually, “losing Weight IS Rocket Science” is the title of my new book. I designed guidance and control systems for missiles and spacecraft for 30 years. I applied the same techniques to design a weight control system for myself and lost over 30 pounds. It was a very simple technique so I wrote a short book about it (self-published). I’m not sure what to do next but I would like to share this info .
I know how it feels. I feel the same before I deliver my baby. Post-delivery weight reduced up to 45 lbs in around 6 months time. I just control my food. Take smaller portion of food with low calorie (try to stick with 200 calorie per serving) and take one meal every 2 hours. With an additional of cardio exercise of 45 minutes a day and some triceps, abs and hamstring workouts. It helps me to drop my weight faster. Hope you can try this method too.
Its simple – there is no science to losing weight besides diet and exercise.
yep – there’s really no science – control your diet and do exercise -
correct! If you really want to lose weight, do it because you want it and you need a self discipline too. The first two weeks of dieting is crucial but patience is a virtue… Motivate yourself that you can do it and sooner or later you’ll see that your doing well and enjoying it. Thanks for sharing. Nice post.
yep, the only way that makes sense to lose weight is doing exercise regularly.
What are you doing to stay active? Do you go on power walks, bike rides or jogs in your daily routine? If not try it. Go for a power walk with your husband every night after dinner. Go on bike rides.
Stay away from sodas even diet sodas. Weight watchers helps but if you eat to much of weight watchers products it will help your gain weight. Try cutting your food intake down by 5%.
Experiment with foods, liquids and exercise and you will find a routine that best fits your bodies needs

I think that a lot of people tend to over think weight loss, when in actually fact if you think about it all there is to it is exercise and a healthy diet. simple.
