My So-Called Life was an Emmy-nominated series that first aired in fall of 1994, starring Claire Danes, Bess Armstrong, Tom Irwin, Jared Leto, Wilson Cruz, and A.J. Langer. This quote from the pilot episode pretty much sums up the series:

“School is a battlefield…for your heart.”

Hailed by critics and fans alike as the most groundbreaking television show of the 1990s, My So-Called Life not only launched a revolution of teen angst-oriented dramas on prime-time television, but also raised the bar for television shows about coming-of age and life’s transitions. Unafraid to explore any subject, no matter how controversial, the series tackles topical issues such as sexuality, alcoholism, homelessness, school violence, adultery, homophobia, child abuse, censorship and drug use.

The box set includes a full disc of bonus features, and they are great. The features include:

Featurettes with the cast and creators:

* “My So-Called Life Story”

The amazing story of the origins, life and afterlife of the series.

* 1995 Museum of Television and Radio Panel
* “A Conversation with Claire Danes and Winnie Holzman”
* “The Characters” - Exploring the backstories and relationships of the characters.
* An exclusive interview with Claire Danes
* Photo gallery
* “The Music” with composer Snuffy Walden
* Deluxe book accompanies set and includes original art alongside full-color cast photos and liner notes from Winnie Holzman, Joss Whedon, Janeane Garofalo, and Michele Byers (author and co-editor of new book Dear Angela: Remembering My So-Called Life - due out this year).

I might be a 40 year old housewife, but I love this series. I think it’s because I can relate to it on two levels-one, I can remember being 15 years old, trying to figure out who I was, moving from one best friend to another, changing my appearance to try to be someone different. And, now that I’m a parent, I find myself paying closer attention to the scenes with Angela’s parents, as they try to understand what their daughter is going through and how best to help her through it.

So, who else loves this show?
