When the cat’s away, the mouse
reverts to slobbery

Author: Elizabeth

My husband has been away on business for 10 days now, and I have come to the sad realization that he actually does a LOT more housework than I realized. It turns out that he is the straightener-upper around here, the one who keeps the clutter off the floor, who keeps the coffee table straightened, and he is the laundry-doer. With him gone, I’ve managed to wash and dry a few loads of clothes, but the putting away? Not so much.

While I was at BlogHer, he informed me that every night before he went to bed, he made sure all the dishes were done, the floor was picked up and vacuumed, and the laundry was folded and put away. I am not doing so well. My husband is a better housekeeper than I am! And the clutter, oh god, the clutter. It’s piling up everywhere. I’m trying, I really am. My Outlook Calendar has all the review posts I have due, bills to pay, even a reminder to go grocery shopping. If I could just get a cleaning fairy to come in and empty all my rooms out completely, and then only put back a few pieces that are functional and stylish, that would be so great.

But since I live in reality and not fantasyland, I have to make do with what I have. Fortunately, MotherTalk sent me the book “Downsizing Your Home With Style”, and you can read all about how it’s inspiring me to reorganize my house by reading my review on MomReviews. It’s a great book!

Oddly enough, it’s the opposite here. Hubby’s the one that leaves shoes and socks laying around, leaves cups/glasses wherever he was, heck, my 4yo’s better at putting his own dishes in the sink than his daddy! So when hubby’s gone is usually when I can actually get a little housework done without it being completely outdone within an hour. Unless hubby gets ants in his pants and decides he *must* clean the den that night despite needing my help while I’m tired and nauseated. Grrr. I’m not a fan of forced cleaning.

  2. You havean organised hubby, Elizabeth.

Don’t feel bad, my other half is the cleaner of the house here with the exception of laundry…okay I wash and dry but i’m also guilty of not putting away lol My better half is the dish washer, carpet vacuumer, counter top cleaner…I could go on and on but the point was – don’t feel bad about not cleaning :)

Tanyetta-It’s true! I really do miss him. But it’s funny-we are so close, we’ve been together for so long, that we drive each other crazy some times. But then when we are apart, we miss each other so much! I guess that’s love for you :)

I need a straightener-upper! Really I do. The clutter is piling up here, too.

Yep, Rich is better at it than me too. Hate to admit it, but he is!
