I have to thank my friend Kate at I Think, Therefore I Blog for writing a post about Yahoo! Site Explorer and the Site Explorer Badge. See there in my sidebar right under my contact info (edited to add:I mean, under the RSS subscription and Add to Technorati links), the little white box? That is the number of links that this blog has, meaning the number of places on the web where my URL exists. I had no idea! And it seems to update in real time. Yesterday I put the badge on MomReviews, took note of the number, went back to Kate’s blog to leave her a comment, and when I went back to MomReviews, the count had gone up by one.
I don’t know how long it will take advertisers and paying-me-to-blog companies to stop relying on PageRank, nor do I know if they ever will. But with that badge, I can show prospective advertisers how many links there are that could potentially bring people to this site, and I hope that is just as if not more valuable than the PageRank that Google has assigned this site using the formula that only they know.
Over 52,000 links can’t be wrong. This site ROCKS, PageRank or no PageRank. Hey, I have to be my own biggest cheerleader. I have to like my blog more than anyone else does in order for it to be successful, I absolutely believe that. I’m working very, very hard on publishing good content that is worth the time that people take to read it, and I’m flattered that advertisers want to have their ads here for my readers to see. It means that they think I have influence, and I’m not going to pretend like that isn’t a compliment, because it is.

Hello and welcome to Table for Five! I'm Elizabeth, and this blog started in September 2005 as a way for me to participate in the Mommy Blogging community. I'm married with three terrific kids-boys ages 11 and 9 and a 2 year old daughter. Things I love include my family, coffee, Diet Coke, TV, reading, and Target.

I added that to my site last night. Weird thing is it had 2000 more links last night. Hmmmm…oh well. It’s there and the PR button is gone. Down with G**gle!!!
“Hey, I have to be my own biggest cheerleader. I have to like my blog more than anyone else does in order for it to be successful, I absolutely believe that.”
You couldn’t have said this better if you were a paid touring-the-country-come-to-our-college motivational speaker Sis. And your aim for hitting that nail on the head couldn’t have been more true! I am very proud of you!
I like your blog, too! I added this Yahoo thing to my site just now. I don’t have as many links as you do, but I was happy to see them.
Natalie-That is odd that you “lost” 2000 links. Does Yahoo have a message board where you could ask if others know why that would happen? Spread the word about the badge, too. The more I use Yahoo, the more I like them
JJ-Thanks, Sissy! I also said that to Christopher Barger, GM’s Global Communications Director, who I spent time with in Memphis. He also oversees GM’s blogs. I was telling him how hard it was for me to stop apologizing and start accepting compliments on my blogs, and that I had realized that it was okay for me to say THANK YOU.
Anna, I like your blog too
Thanks for making me Post of the Day! I saw the badge on your sidebar-over 11,000 links sounds pretty cool to me!
I’ll have to check out that Yahoo thing, thanks!
BusyMom-You’re welcome! Although I’d like to know more about how the links are calculated, because I’ve already ‘lost’ around 2,000 since I wrote this post. Where did they go?
The Yahoo links button is interesting but I really would like something better. Something that not only counts the number of links but also the authority of those links. I posted on the hope someone provides a useful measure for link based web page authority now that Google has turned pagerank into something else. And hopefully that one can be much more up to date.
Dude, I’m on my way over!
Very, very interesting … I need to check into this!
Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this tip!
