In 1991, NBC premiered a new Saturday morning cartoon that combined two shows featuring video game characters. Super Mario World was based on the hit video game of the same name, and featured the adventures of the Super Mario Brothers, Princess Toadstool, and their dinosaur friend Yoshi. Captain N: The Game Master had Mother Brain (Metroid) and her Forces of Chaos threatening the freedom of Videoland. It was up to Game Master Kevin Keene and the N-Team to stop them from conquering the universe.

I have three copies of the DVD Captain N and the new Super Mario World, and I’m giving them away on MomReviews. The contest runs until next Friday the 29th, so please click this contest link if you would like to enter!

It was actually pretty nice just having a quiet dinner at home this year. There’s a lot more pressure when you are cooking for a large group. For example, when I completely ruined the mashed potatoes (turned them into glue, oh yes I did), I knew I had a box of Betty Crocker Roasted Garlic instant potatoes in the pantry, so I just made those. It would have been a lot harder to make a quick subsitution if I was cooking for 16 again this year.

We don’t eat fancy in our house, so our dinner might seem plain to some people, but it was delicious. Turkey, the mashed potatoes with Heinz gravy, Stove Top cornbread stuffing, steamed green peas, and sweet potatoes sauteed with butter and brown sugar. Oh, and crescent rolls, which were good even if they were garlic butter flavor (my husband did the shopping and just grabbed a can without looking.) Simple, and so good.

Then later after we digested, we had bakery apple pie served warm with scoops of vanilla bean ice cream.

It was really a good dinner. Today for lunch we had leftover turkey on white bread with mayo, another simple yet delicious sandwich, and for dinner, we’ll have the leftovers of all the foods from last night, so basically another Thanksgiving dinner. Yum, yum, yum!

I am so ready to start decorating my house and a tree for Christmas. I have the Christmas spirit big time this year! We need to buy a new tree though, the artificial one we’ve been using is looking pretty raggedy. I think I might have Chris convinced to let me pick out a real tree this year; we haven’t had one in years. I just love the way they smell.

We need new strings of lights too, and I’m looking into upgrading our old incandescent lights to the new LED mini lights. They are more expensive, but they are 80 percent more efficient than standard lights, and last up to 50,000 hours as opposed to 2,000 for incandescents. While I was looking online for more info on mini LED lights, I found HolidayLEDs.com, who has the funniest thing on their site-the “Ugly Christmas Lights” page. People take photos of houses with the gaudiest or most pathetic light displays, and then the photos get posted on the site. Some of them are just jaw-dropping.

Oh, and LED lights are made of indestructible plastic as opposed to glass, so they are safer to have around. It’s bad enough that I always drop at least one of my favorite glass ornaments every year. I could use LED lights in the kids’ room to decorate around their windows without worrying about them bumping into one and getting cut or something. I can’t wait to start decorating!

My sweet blog friend Anna gave me this award:

friendinyou1.jpg

Isn’t that nice? I’ve got a whole list of people I’d like to give this to, can I just give it to everybody? Because honestly, if I have to pick and choose, then someone is going to get their feelings hurt. Everyone who comments here, who emails me, who IMs me just to chat in the middle of the afternoon, I consider you all friends. So please, take me seriously on this-you know who you are. Please right-click on the award, save it to your computer, and then put it on your sidebar or awards page or whatever you do with blog awards. You ALL deserve it.
