The New Year’s Resolution Blogroll

Author: Elizabeth

I made a doozy of a New Year’s Resolution this year. My family is going to commit to eating out only once a week, and save the money we would have spent on other meals out for a big vacation next December! Which means I will have to cook dinner six nights a week-yikes. But I can do it!

So here’s what I’d like to do. If you would like to join a blogroll of people who are committed to sticking to their New Year’s Resolution, whatever it might be, then write a post in your own words about it and add your name to this list, sending me a trackback. I’ll keep a list up at the top of the page in a tab labelled “NYRB”. Then, when you stop by to read my posts and you have a few extra minutes, you can visit the people on the blogroll and encourage them and cheer them on!

I was going to make a badge that we could all display, something like “I’ve Got A New Year’s Resolution” or something, but for the life of me, I cannot find a website with a badge generator that will let me make a 125 x 125 badge. My other New Year’s Resolution ought to be to finally figure out Photoshop LOL

So for now, just send me a trackback or leave your URL in your comment once you write your New Year’s Resolution post. I’ll remind everyone again on Monday :) We can do it!

Comments are moderated. Leave your name or blog name in the comment field; comments left with keywords instead of a name will be deleted.

This is a great idea! I only wish I was still blogging (I DO plan to resume once the wedding is over and life isn’t non-stop crazy around here. heh, hopefully that’s not never.) Good luck on the NY resolution! I find Robin Miller’s “quick fix” recipes AWESOME as she utilizes a main ingredient for two or three very different yet delicious meals so you only have to prepare the main ingredient once. For instance she’ll have you brown ground beef and add seasonings and canned diced tomatoes. Then she’ll divide it into thirds, use 1/3 for lasagna, add some spices to 1/3 and use it for tacos, and add some other easy ingredients for the last third and make sloppy joes. Insanely easy, and you only really have to “cook” once.

Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for stopping by again and letting me know about this! Count me in! I look forward to it! Good luck with your resolution, it’s a good one! Eating out is tough on the waistline and pocketbook (I should know we just got back from town, where we shopped and ate! Agh!) ;)

Liz, I’m happy to help you out with the badge but I can’t do it until maybe New Years Day itself. If you’re interested – email me. Seriously. Happy to use some image credits for a good cause.

I haven’t committed to any resolutions yet but cooking more and eating pizza less ought to be one of them!

BTW I got your comment this morning and I’m sorry if we passed this nasty sickness to you. I only wish you would have been quicker on saying you hope I don’t get it too cause I did end up with it. 2 days worth of it.
    Hope you feel better soon!

See I have serious issues with this because I eat most of my meals at the local restaurant. I can’t see lugging out cookware for just me when I guy buy it pretty cheap a few minutes from my house and it’s healthy.

I don’t do new years resolutions, never have, never will. But I can tell you there are a slew of new folks at the gym lately and we will probably only see them for a couple of weeks but in the meantime they are mucking up our own schedules for the regulars.

If you need help with your resolution, you know you can always harass me, right? And, if you want to get technical, you only need to cook 6 nights a week, use the 7th as leftover night, and maybe only eat out every two weeks if that. ;) Once a month cooking (although I’m not fond of her recipes) is also another thing to look at for ya – I think they even have a version of OAMC on the Saving Dinner website (if you haven’t already checked that book out from the library, go!).

My only “official” NYR is to have this baby. Because I know I can actually do it. The rest is just stuff I’d like to do (oh, say, like tackle laundry mountain), but we’ll survive if I’m slow about it.

    Oh forgot something…

Aren’t your boys old enough to cook or help with cooking? Put ‘em to work! I’d hazard a guess they may be more likely to eat and help out with this if they have a hand in it (literally!). :) When the boys get a bit older and can be trusted with paring knives, we totally plan to put ‘em to work – each kiddo will get to cook one dinner a week, which’ll leave me with only 2-3 days I’ll officially need to do it. I’m so looking forward to that (plus I want them to be able to cook better than I could when I left my parents’ house, oy).

Excellent idea! I have a “goal” for November this year and, for me, it’s going to take some doing, so I’ll make it my New Years Resolution. I’ll probably blog about it later today or tomorrow and leave you the link.

And, as for cooking 6 nights a week, you can do it! We almost NEVER eat out so I cook every night. Of course our menu is pretty much set in stone so on Monday’s we always have Salmon and Roaste Veggies — but the weekends we do tend to try out new things.

Here’s my tip to making sure you only get what you need for the week — plan out your menu for the week and then make a list of what you need and only buy what’s on the list. I do have to make a few side trips for fresh lettuce and tomatoes and other veggies on occasion, but for the most part, I can get everything I need for the whole week in one fell swoop. Saves time and money and makes it easier to eat healthy!

Good luck! You can do it!
