Oooh, do I love Cashmere Mafia!

cashmere-thumb.jpg I completely and totally disagree with USA Today’s review of Cashmere Mafia. It might be far more soapy than the show it’s being compared to, Sex and The City, but in my opinion, there is a lot more going on than just good hair and killer clothes.

Juliet, Zoe, Mia, and Caitlin are friends from business school living the high-powered life in New York. Juliet (red-haired Miranda Otto from Lord of the Rings), the C.O.O. of a hotel chain, is married to Davis and has a daughter, and by the second episode has learned of her husband’s affair and is plotting to get revenge by having an affair of her own. Zoe (Frances O’Connor from Artificial Intelligence: AI and Bedazzled), who puts together multi-million deals for clients of an investment firm, is happily married to Eric with two kids in an exclusive private school, and her main rival is an Alpha Mom with an eye for Eric and a competitive streak a mile wide. Mia has just been promoted to Publisher for a media group, beating out her own fiance for the job, leading him to call off their engagement. And Caitlin (Bonnie Somerville from NYPD Blue), is the head of marketing for a cosmetics company, and after a string of what she calls semi-successful mediocre relationships, is surprised to find herself attracted to a woman.

What I like best about Cashmere Mafia is that the women have a true friendship. There’s no backstabbing, no gossiping behind each other’s backs, they are available to drop everything and help each other with man troubles, work problems, whatever comes up. The other thing I like-the fashion. I just drooled during the scene that showed each woman getting her handbag ready for the day. Juliet had a whole section of her closet just for bags, organized by color. And Mia celebrated her promotion by buying a gorgeous Gucci bag.

So I really hope that my tradition of liking new shows that then just get cancelled does not prove to be the case for Cashmere Mafia. And I hope I’m not the only person who watches it, either!

I’ve never been drawn to this kind of show, but it seems like quite a few of them are popping out of the woodwork suddenly. We don’t have cable and we only pick up about three channels, so I never watch TV, but if I get the chance I’ll probably check this out, if only to find out if it’s bad.

You really gotta do something about the CPU usage and getting the suspension page, I keep getting it when commenting.

So far I have loved this new series considering all the writers are still on strike and Lucy Liu has still got that in your face attitude which I like.

I told my husband the other night, “I’m watching a fluff show… and i love it!”

What, we can have a show called desperate housewives, where the women are SAHM’s/ SAH Wives, but we can’t have a show where the women are powerful? Bah, whatever.

BTW, I love your new profile pic :D

It sounds like a SITC knock-off with a slightly different spin. I gues it could work. It’s also an opportunity to get some TV time for other designer clothes like ….
