She wants to be a Princess

Author: Elizabeth

Tonight I found Kaitlyn at the kitchen counter standing on a chair which she had dragged herself over from the table, and she was patiently taking all of the in-the-shell nuts that came in a Christmas gift basket out of said basket and arranging them in a pattern on the counter.

“What are you doing, Kaitlyn?”, I asked her.

She replied, in her high, squeaky toddler voice that I find utterly charming and adorable every time she speaks, “making a castle.”

“Oh”, I said, “will a princess live in the castle?”

She shook her curly head. “I be the Princess, Mama”.

Should I just start taking my husband’s paycheck directly to the Disney Store every week?

We deeply regret not having shares in the Disney Stores….

Caity is our dirty faced princess.
She twirls and dances and runs and it is all ‘look mommy..this is how a princess does…’

    Yah.

PRINCESS MUFFINEST! Your beautiful highness, please be careful and let one of your most loyal of subjects retrieve said nuts, hire an architect of the utmost skill, over-see the construction of and make safe the most perfect castle the world has ever seen, roll a red carpet out to the front door, sprinkle the red carpet with the petals of the rarest, most beautiful flowers and personally pick out the most stunning magnificent horses to pull the carriage that retrieves you from your pedestal of safety to step foot in and claim your castle.

A dollar store tiara and some modified clothes of yours from way back when wouldn’t do it?
I know most of my friends have several old bridesmaid dresses hiding in a closet somewhere that’d be fabulous princess getups for little ones. ;)

Ahhh yes. The ever present request to go to the mall and see the “princess store.” We know the routine well. When we give in and actually walk through the doors, there is the “ooohh Mommy… isn’t that beautiful?” and then she turns to look at me and say “i am a beautiful princess.” When subtlety doesn’t work, she moves onto a more direct manner. “Mommy, can I have that?” When I say no, it becomes “Maybe next time, Mommy.” Sigh.

That’s so cute! Don’t all little girls aspire to be princesses. I know I have my prince and we’re living in our castle!

That’s so cute. I LOVE that my little girl enjoys being a princess. She’s just gone 7 and still LOVES being a princess. :) Compared to some of the stuff pushed at young girls these days – I think the Princess range is lovely and girly and much more appropriate.

Lanna-I have never been a bridesmaid! But I will start keeping my eye out at the thrift stores for suitable princess-type dressup outfits :)

Robyn-Was that you that made the Princess cake? I might want that for Kaitlyn’s birthday in November!

Yup! :) I don’t know what it is about girls and princesses, but even my littlest one is starting to get into it too now!
