I’d like to apologize to all my readers

Author: Elizabeth

If you were kind enough to stop by in the last two days, you might have been surprised to see that instead of seeing the home page of this blog, you got a pop-up page of ads. I tried running spyware detector software, nothing was coming up. Then my husband hit upon the idea to pull all the widgets off my sidebars and then start adding them back one at a time. It turned out that the spyware was coming from a little button I had that displays your current Alexa rank. I’ve taken that button off and I haven’t seen any popups since then, but please let me know if it happens again. And thank you Carmen for emailing me!

We can now return to regular posting of Table for Five awesomeness.

The same happened to me just yesterday and today. This afternoon I made a broadcast and another blogger told me about that it could be a widget problem. I deleted also that alexa widget (!) – et voila, it’s fixed now. And I’m happy again.

Great I have found your site, I wish it would have been here a little bit earlier.:-)

    Nice blogs you have!

Geez, I totally missed that one! Good thing you have a technically inclined husband to help you out.

Now I’m wondering if I should remove my Alexa widget too, I’m afraid I don’t understand spyware.

Wait, was this from the official alexa widget or one you downloaded from somewhere else?

Elizabeth, I noticed the pop-up ads yesterday, too. I was planning to email you about it after I got home tonight, and then I read your post. I also had a problem with a “pop-under” that was a porn site. When I saw it yesterday, I thought where in the world did that come from. I visited several blogs yesterday, so it was hard to know exactly where it came from, but now I’m thinking it was connected to the pop-up ads or to my Alexa widget. Did anyone else have that problem?
I’m going to go delete my Alexa widget right now.

Christy-If you aren’t having any problems with your site getting hijacked by ads, your site is probably okay. But I had too much stuff on the sidebars anyway, so it was a blessing in disguise :)

    Zero-It’s from here—http://www.rankwidget.com/
But what’s really odd is that the Yahoo! search button at the bottom of the left sidebar comes from the same site and isn’t causing problems. So it would seem that it was a problem between Alexa itself and the info being delivered to that button.

Charla-Oh yeah, I had a porn too. Who knew there was a site similar to YouTube except for porn? Ick. So for now, I’m not going to display my Alexa rank on my sidebar-not that it is that great anyway ;)

I noticed this but thought it was because I had visted so many diffrent blogs and websites that it came from one of the websites until a porn one showed up. That was my clue that something was up. I ment to contact you to let you know but got distracted with Sam. Turns out that email is a saved draft when I thought it was sent. Oh the joys of toddlers!

I was wondering that a spyware/ pop-up in a little button is possible. Keep you Blog clean.

    Hi Mimi,

Josh broke his arm, oh no! How did that happen? And doesn’t it always figure that when one of your kids is sick and needs extra attention, Mom has to be sick too? I hope you feel better soon! Tell Josh I wish I could sign his cast for him :)
