“Enchanted”-comparing scenes to classic Disney cartoons

If you’ve seen “Enchanted” (and if you haven’t, please do, it’s wonderful), you probably noticed that not only did it use elements from classic Disney movies like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White, but that there were many scenes that were actual recreations. I’ve got stills I’d like to show you that you might not have noticed the first time, but you’ll see what I mean. Here’s Gisele and Robert sharing a pizza in a scene straight out of Lady and the Tramp-

This scene with Gisele and Robert is a recreation from Little Mermaid-

This dancing scene is taken straight from Beauty and the Beast (although Patrick Dempsey is no Beast, that’s for sure!-

“Enchanted” truly is a movie for the whole family. Amy Adams is charming as Gisele, who starts out in animated Andalasia as a Princess about to marry Prince Edward, until his step-mother Queen Narissa pushes her down a well and she lands in Times Square. She meets Robert and his daughter, and finds herself learning to get along in the real world while also searching for Edward, who she believes is her “happily ever after”. My favorite part of the movie is the song “That’s How You Know”, which was nominated for an Oscar and has a catchy reggae beat. I found myself singing it for days after seeing the movie.

The DVD comes with great Bonus Features, including Deleted Scenes, Bloopers, Behind-The-Scenes Featurettes, Carrie Underwood’s video “Ever Ever After”, and Pip’s Predicament, A Pop-Up Adventure, in which Gisele’s chipmunk friend Pip searches Andalasia for a way to save Prince Edward. It uses a combination of animation and pop-up book-like movement. You can also watch scenes from the movie on it’s Amazon.com page (and order it there too, for $14.99 plus shipping). It’s definitely a movie worth buying for children of all ages!

We netflixed this the day it was released, and the kids watched it about ten times in just a few days. So now we’re buying it.

My daughter calls it “the bug movie” because of the house-cleaning song and dance number. I guess she hasn’t seen Bugs Life yet, I wonder what she’ll call that…

I’ve wondered about this movie. It seems cute, but it seems like one I would want to watch at home, snuggled up to my husband. Thanks for your review.
