Edited to add: This giveaway is closed. Congratulations to Christina of A Mommy Story!
I know everyone is thinking that there will be nothing but April Fool’s Day jokes on the internet today, but I swear, this is real. I have a sponsor that wants to give a lucky winner a TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR American Express Gift Card, to be used towards any kind of college expense. You can enter for yourself, a spouse, a child, a niece or nephew, the child of a friend-doesn’t matter!
The giveaway is sponsored by Fanscape, Inc. and TuitionBids.com. You know how there are sites that let you apply for a mortgage or refinance and then banks “bid” on getting the loan? TuitionBids works just like that. You apply for either a Federal or private Student Loan, which takes about five minutes, then up to six banks submit their offers, and you choose the one that suits your needs. Don’t know how much to apply for? The site has two great tools to help. Honestly, I wish this had existed when I was heading to college.
The first is the Campus Detective tool. Put in the name of a college, and up comes a page that shows everything from the cost of tuition, fees and room and board, but also what percentage of students apply for aid, what percentage are approved, and the average value of the aid package. Whether you want to win the gift card or not, if you are making any kind of college plans, I would check the Campus Detective first.
There is also a Gap Calculator. Put in the name of your college, and it brings up a form already filled out with the fees, then you fill in the Expected amount that the family can contribute and it shows you how much aid to apply for.
And now, the best part-the giveaway! I have been asked to give away a $200 American Express card to be used towards any college expense. All I am going to require for the giveaway is that you leave a comment with a valid name and URL. However, I would appreciate it if you would also say in the comment how you will use the money if you win.
In addition, although not required, I always appreciate any or all of the following-stumbling the post, subscribing to my blog’s feed, or mentioning the giveaway on your own blog (trackbacks are allowed). Comments will be accepted until Tuesday, April 8th at 9:00 am ET. Thanks and good luck everyone!

That is AWESOME!
If I won it would totally go for Hailey’s college fund which is scandalously under-funded.

Hey, I’m game! My coworker is just 18 and has no parents so shes on her own trying to get through college. She has a “Bright Futures” scholarship that helps pay tuition but she has to pay the rest plus books and living expenses. It’s a tough situation for her and the state is no help, also not helping is there’s only so much money a just-out-of-high school 18 year old can make, she could really use the money…

I’m up for this. I just dropped $300 on books for my new quarter of nursing school, and that was just for one class! I’m spending between $300-500 per quarter on books I’m not allowed to sell back because we need them for future quarters. My student loans (which is all I can get since this is my second degree) cover my tuition, but books aren’t covered and my credit card is getting awfully high.

Nice. I would use it to help put my husband back in college this summer. Can you believe he is 3 semester hours short of his bachelors? It is probably more now since they just love to update the requirements for graduation.

Wow. How generous! I would use the $200 to put towards the purchase of a laptop. If I am accepted to law school (keeping my fingers crossed!!) having a laptop is a requirement.
Thanks. My goddaughter is heading off to college this summer. I’ll send this to her.

Jenny-If by “underfunded” you mean have saved no money at all for any of the 3 kids and they will have to deliver pizzas in college to pay for tuition? Me too.
Wow, that sounds very interesting. Winning a price of $200 would definetly mean a lot to me. But still i’m in a belief that you may be fooling the readers.

Wow I love to read so books it will most probably be for.
Mike-I promise, it is not a joke. The sponsor is offering the gift card as a way to drive traffic to TuitionBids.com. It’s cheaper than paying for direct advertising!

I have two teenagers. We could use all the help we can get when it comes to paying for college. Just reading through the comments here tells me that there are expenses involved that I haven’t even begun to think about!
Contest or competition with a prize intended to help students in their education expenditures is always noble. I will definitely write something about this on scholarshipadvice and onlinedegreestudy blog today. Anyway, if I will be the lucky one to win, I will hand my prize to my younger brother who will enroll in college this coming June.

This is a great giveaway! College can be so expensive… I know, I’m still paying for my first trip there lol I’d like to start continuing my education, and I’ve been looking into programs for the last couple of weeks– it’s so overwhelming!

Thanks for that link! I will definitely be keeping it bookmarked for when my daughters go to college.
If I win, I sure can use that $200 towards my daughter’s summer tuition to the N.C. School of the Arts. She will get college credit for the course she will take this summer and it will be a good way for her to get a taste of college while still a sophomore in high school. Of course she would choose a course where no Financial Aid or Grant is available and the tuition for the four week course is a whopping $2300. So yeah, I can use $200
p.s. it doesn’t help that opps have slowed down for me. I was hoping income from blogging will help towards that

What a great giveaway! I am a student at Portland State University. I would use this money to buy some of the books I need, instead of having to use the library. One of my classes this term required six books! I am subscribing to your feed. I have no idea how to leave a trackback url.
I’m currently working on receiving my Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice.
This giveaway would be used to purchase materials for school.
Thank you for the opportunity to assist with my educational journey.
I am a BNS graduate pursuing a Masters degree in Nursing management. The giveaway is going to help me pay my tuition fee for my studies and pay other expenses in school if granted. I will be very happy if this great opportunity is given me.
I will pay my enrollment fee at AIU for studying computer science.
thanks
