I’d like to extend a welcome to a new Table for Five sponsor, GTX Corp. For the next 12 weeks, I’ll be doing a series of posts, 36 altogether, about GTX and their amazing technology. GTX stands for Global Trek Xploration. The company develops, patents, and integrates miniature GPS units into branded merchandise, like athletic shoes, for example.

What I will be looking at is ways that a miniature GPS unit could be put to practical use in areas such as medicine, health, athletics, and personal safety. GTX’s patented “Personal Location Services” platform consists of a miniaturized “always-on” Assisted-GPS tracking AND location-reporting module which provides real-time location coordinates rendered on Google Maps. Okay, I borrowed that from their website, because it sounded a lot better than the way I was trying to explain it :)

But think about it- patients with Alzheimer’s disease being able to be monitored so that they don’t wander off. Firefighters not getting lost inside smoke-filled buildings. Police dogs being able to search collapsed buildings with their progress being tracked live online. I’ll be asking you to contribute to the discussions as well, if you come across a news story about a situation in which a GPS tracking unit would have made a difference, I’d like you to email it to me or leave the link in a comment.

I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be able to spread the word about this emerging technology and get people thinking about ways to use it. I hope you enjoy the post series!
