LOL! What a great story! If I was the other person in that story, watch out --- I would have engaged you in a long discussion about kids and parenting and the like! As a stay-at-home Dad who runs his own business from a home office, the one thing I crave the most is interaction with other adults!

This story brings to mind a bit of what happened to me last week at our library. I was there with my almost-three-year-old son while my older son was at his tae kwon do class. The libarian, who we sort of know, approached me and out of the blue asked, "Does he get much socialization?"

Huh? Why are YOU asking me that? Is it because you know we home -school and you think stereotypically that my kid doesn't get out with others much, especially since right now we're at the library by ourselves?

And the librarian isn't even a parent! Yet, she's wondering about the socialization of my son!

So, in your case it's great: You were giving appropriate advice - in my opinion - about a backpack... it was "relevant" to the situation. In my case, this almost perfect stranger let loose with a question way out of left field.

Insteresting for sure what others have to say, especially to other parents!

I don't think it was so bad. If you had told her to put the stuff back and head to the OB/GYN to get a prescription for birth control for her kids, that might have been a little much (although not necessarily bad advice)
