There’s this myth that at age two, children suddenly turn into some sort of evil creatures that defy all attempts at logic, and spend their days shrieking and writhing on the floor like they are covered in snakes. Fortunately for us, that just isn’t happening here at the Table for Five house. Kaitlyn is so unbelievably cute, so funny and talkative and wicked smart, that when I hear the phrase “terrible twos”, I just shake my head in disbelief.
She can recite entire scenes from Ni Hao Kai Lan. Today she lined up four of her Groovy Girls pets (sold at Target) and sang them a song from the show, something about not trying to do something all at once but doing it little by little. She is always asking me Mama, are you happy? She makes me WANT to be happy, all the time, just so I don’t disappoint her.
Now, to be fair, she does have her moments. The other evening she was playing outside with my next-door-neighbor’s great-granddaughter, drawing with chalk on the sidewalk while I snapped photos. All I said to her was “Kaitlyn, can you hug Terese and I’ll take your picture?” Next thing I knew she went stomping up the sidewalk, up the driveway, and sat down on the porch in a huff, yelling “NO!”
But if that’s the closest she’s going to get to a “terrible two” style tantrum, I’ll take it. She brings more joy into my life on a daily basis than I could have ever imagined, even when she’s pretending to be mad.

Parker was the same way… Then he hit three.. The weird thing is that he’s always asking me if I’m happy, singing songs from Ni Hao Kai Lan (his favorite is “Everyone gets to play, when you take turns, so share share share!”) And pretending to be mad – though with that it’s usually easily defused if I just seem concerned – “Why are you angry Parker?” – you can visibly see his resolve melt like butter on toast.
Give the babies (all 4 of them at your house haha) smoochies from their Auntie/sister JJ
oh my she is so cute and her cheeks are so red like apple..want to chew on them..
My daughter is 2 also, and she is pretty good too. the only thing that she really gets upset about is unexpected change. so if we are leaving a friends house or something, i just tell her a few minutes before hand, and tantrum averted!

Yep, 2 is one thing – 3 is entirely different! At least in my experience.

My daughter didn’t really jump into any kind of terrible twos right off or anything. She was adorable, reasonably well behaved, acted well in public…and then about two and a half rolled around..and she’s gotten worse..and worse..and worse(she’s now a few months past three, and as difficult as ever). Not so say that your bub will go that direction!
With a face like that, I have no problems believeing that she’s a terrific two!
My daughter just turned 3 two weeks ago and I had the same experience. She was as loving and patient as I could ever expect a 2 year old to be. But everyone keeps warning me that changes at 3 – so far so good, though!
