Shopping online makes bad days better

Author: Elizabeth

I tell you what, people, I am just having one of those days. I won’t go into the boring details except to say that I hope tomorrow is better. In the meantime, I’ve been letting the Internet console me, by spending some time just looking things up that I might some day want to buy. I found a website called ShopWiki.com that crawls the web looking for sites selling whatever it is you are looking for, not just sites that have paid them to have their listings come up. I started out on the Home and Garden Products page, because as a homeowner it is apparently my job to you know, prune things and dig things up and plant more things, and I am terrible at it, so I’m always hoping I’ll find a miracle gardening tool instead.

I also remembered that I have had my Dad’s electric hedge trimmer in the back of my van for about two weeks, I went over there to borrow it and promised to bring it right back. Um, yeah. ShopWiki has a ginormous search area so I just typed in “Hedge Trimmer” and up came 323 choices. For each listing you can see how many the ShopWiki robots found, and by hovering over “See all stores”, you can go directly to a store homepage to order. Hedge Trimmers are more expensive than I thought but not completely unaffordable, so Dad might get his back. Soon.

But, shopping for hedge trimmers is just not that thrilling compared to REALLY shopping, so I put “handbags” into the search bar to see what would happen. Ooooh, 1,099 results, now we’re talking! BlogHer is next month and I desperately want a leather handbag that will hold up to being dragged through airports, constantly opened and closed while I fish out my ID, lipstick, hairbrush, business cards, what have you. I’m not seeing anything I love so I enter “Dooney & Bourke” into the search bar-THERE WE GO. Oh god, have you seen their bags? LOVE LOVE LOVE. And then, I see it.

The Dooney & Bourke Girly Tulip Tassel Tote-oh yes, that’s really what it is called. My heart skips.

People. I want that purse. I want it so badly that it hurts me inside. The lowest price that ShopWiki.com can find for it is $150. Which I don’t have. My mind starts turning over possible ways to earn $150 that are legal. I need that tote. I’m going to haunt it online staring at it’s beauty until I figure out a way to buy it-oh yes, I will. And suddenly my bad day seems better. Thanks ShopWiki.com.

Yes, I agree, very nice purse. Looks similar to the trendy LV knockoff bags that you find when you go to canal street in New York, hehe

  4. Very nice bag with a pricey tag ( well, at least for you and me anyway). You are quite brave to skip on the first deal you got to haunt for better deals. It does take a lot of practice not to be a compulsive buyer. But it seems you have mastered the skill. Good luck hunting!

  5. Is it possible that the traditional shopping fun will be replaced by online shopping? Maybe gather a few friends and go shopping online? Haha. Anyway, nice purse.

    Ooh! Cute bag!

I’m saving my BlogHer shopping for after my birthday (July 7) so I’ll hopefully have lots of gift cards to shop with.

Less than a month-I’m so excited!

“haunt it online” ooh a woman after my own heart. I don’t usually shop online, but when I want something I find any excuse to get it too! Good choice on the purse, its adorable.

  8. It’s true these handbags can get quite up there in price! Some of the Michael Kors Handbags can get upwards of $3000!

sometimes haunting something online can be helpful. If you want it that bad it provides you with a goal. Maybe you want to start cutting some corners and saving a little money here and there so you can finally get the bag.

I like how you said “My mind starts turning over possible ways to earn $150 that are legal”. It is good to see that you ruled out drug dealing right off the bat!
