Sometimes, I wish I had an exciting, romantic proposal story for moments like this. But my relationship with my fiancé has been so perfect and effortless from day 1 that it was always a question of “when,” not “will we?” I guess he “officially” asked me for the first time when he gave me his grandmother’s engagement ring…but I’d already said yes many times.

We had been dating for only 6 months, but everyone around us kept asking “when are you going to get married?”. One day while discussing this together, he said “well, do you?” I said “yes”. We did have a nice sit down dinner for the 2 of us. He cooked and after dinner got down on one knee and gave me a ring. We were married 7 months later and have now been married for 18 years.

I wrote mine in a post!

We were just getting back for his cousins wedding and we were sitting on the couch just talking and relaxing after a long day. I had my eyes closed and I felt him move off the couch and when I opened my eyes he was on his knee asking me to marry him. I of course said yes. and here we are almost 8 years later.
Well I’m just gonna be honest! I was 2 mos. pregnant and we were in the car going to dinner. He just couldn’t wait and spilled the beans, though he had planned to do it at dinner. He gave me the ring, it was one a good friends mom ad gave him. We have since upgraded rings, have a 2 year old, and have been married for a year and a half. Great giveaway, thanks!

My proposal was rather uneventful. Me and my b/f were sitting on my bed and the topic of marriage came up, he mentioned something about a ring and I said it didn’t matter if I had one or not (what was I thinking?!?! LOL) so he asked me then and there if I would marry him. I said yes.

Here is my story! (I should post the photo on my blog, lol!)
It was my birthday, and my boyfriend Alan decided to take me to our place of work (and favorite seafood restaurant) The Crabs Claw. We started off with drinks at the bar (hey – I was turning 21!) followed by a delish dinner at the best table in the house (by a huge window with a gorgeous view of the Atlantic Ocean). He had a steak I’m sure – he’s not into seafood; but I ate a huge assortment of crab legs (that was literally saved for me since it was being pulled from the menu). For dessert the owner, Toni brought out a mini-Turtle cheesecake (which wasn’t on the menu anymore) with a single candle on it. The music that was playing was changed and our song (“Everything I Do†by Bryan Adams) began. The candle was lit and as I blew it out I saw a beautiful diamond ring slipped over it. Alan handed me a note (written on pink paper – which is what we always used to exchange notes on in high school) that say “Marry me? Check YES or NO†with check boxes. I started crying and of course checked yes! My boss was right there to take photos and everyone started clapping. It was a wonderful night and almost 6 years later he still loves to surprise me!

My then boyfriend came to visit for a long weekend (July 4th). My father is old fashioned and wanted to be asked before proposed to, JL knew this. Thanks to the AC dying over a 90+ degree weekend I fell asleep on the floor and he had time to ask without me knowing.
The next day we went mini-golfing, to dinner and then I wanted to go back inside to rest. JL insisted that we go for a walk under the stars. When we were almost back at my house he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
My entire family knew he was going to pop the question and were waiting for him to finally do it.
Thanks for the fun giveaway!

He was holding this adorable white bear with a red ribbon around its’ neck. The bear was a gift for me, since at the time, I collected bears! As I was looking at the bear and turning it around, there on the back of its’ ribbon, an engagement ring was dangling! Cindi (In May, we celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary)!

I suppose you could say mine was somewhat uneventful as well. My Guy just didn’t do the one knee thing, or plan a special date or event. Like so many couples today – we lived together for almost 9 years before we ‘both agreed’ it was time to actually tie the knott. I suppose you could say, I enjoy living vicariously thru others wonderful stories. Oh to be young again
It was very romantic. We went to see the movie Funny Girl and then went to a park which has an eternal flame dedicated to John Kennedy. I was touched by the symbolism of my fiance’s gesture.
My husband proposed to me in October of 1999. He proposed to me in the park near our apartment complex. I had just started my senior year of college and was ecstatic.
Thanks for the fun giveaway!
We were sitting in a cocktail bar & he said, “You’re not getting any younger”. I told him, “You can’t afford me.” We broke up.
I met my husband while he was in the Military and we got engaged just a few months later. He left for active duty, and when he returned, we got married.
Well, I think it was just a given that we were going to get married. He asked me in a Dairy Queen one evening, but he didn’t really ask. He just pulled the ring box out of his pocket and put it in front of me. I was a bit confused, opened it and said, “Is this what I think it is?!” LOL, not too romantic, but the funny part is he’s the most romantic man I’ve ever met!
I haven’t married yet but my parents’ proposal story is really funny. My mom flew in to Rock Hill SC to visit my dad, and my father pulled the car off the road and said, “Here!” Mom opened up the box and of course said YES!! The rest is history as they say
I am such a workaholic that my working ruined my husband’s big plans. We were supposed to go to a fancy restaurant 45 mintues away (he did not tell me until after I worked a double shift at work and what could have been). Instead he did a basic simple request at home

We were high school sweethearts- he proposed with “Will you marry me?” and presented me with a ring – while we were having ice cream one night. We married one year later – my senior year of school. We celebrate 15 years of marriage, this August. I love him, so much.

My husband’s proposal was pretty un-romantic but heartfelt, nonetheless. We were lying in bed after an afternoon delight, and he rolled over and said, “Hey, ya wanna get hitched?” I said, “Sure. Why not.” LOL – seriously, that was it.. but it will be ten years this year, and I’m still very much in love with the big turd
Both my proposals were totally uninspired (as were the marriages that followed them)!! So — at 46 years old, I am STILL holding out for the perfect proposal and marriage!!!
How exciting! I’ve been at home sick and I keep seeing the ads for that movie and wondering why I didn’t see it since it has my other husband (Ryan Reynolds) in it!
Dave proposed on our second anniversary of dating. I had taken the day off work and was driving him back to his job from lunch. He ask me to pull over at a nearby pond. He told me how much he loved me and popped the question. He told me he wanted me to pick out my own ring, so he took me out to the jewelry stores later that night.

No special marriage proposal either. On my birthday, he gave me “something” in a paper bag. I kinda knew what it was. It was an engagement ring and that’s when he asked me to marry him. My fiancee is no good at keeping secrets – so I knew the proposal was coming (I had found the receipt for the ring) but still I wasn’t sure exactly when. He took me out for drinks in the downtown area of our city and after we were done we went for a walk. It was lightly snowing (in the middle of April!) so he suggested that we take a carriage ride. It was incredibly romantic and although I don’t remember a word he said – it was perfect!

After I told him we’re either getting married or I’m leaving. He had an absolutely gorgeous ring made and gave it to me on christmas morning.
My husband had multiple surgeries on his leg after a car accident; after nursing him back to health, he managed to get down on one knee (which scared me so much with all the ligament damage) and propose to me at the Four Seasons in Egypt. I never was proposed to. Me and my husband talked about having kids and decided it was time to get married. We felt we were married when we moved in together.
My husband proposed while we were watching the summer Olympics !
Several weeks prior to the engagement night, my now husband had invited me to attend a work event. It happened to be his company’s 25th anniversary and he determined that they were having a huge formal party. To be even more convincing, we had watched tv several times and seen a commercial about the 25th anniversary.
That evening, I showed up at his apartment dressed up and ready to meet many of his colleagues for the first time. I immediately inquired as to where we were going and when we needed to leave. Jason was unable to share the details and determined it was the invitation that he was struggling to locate. This is very typical Jason (even to this day). I was irritated because I did not want to show up an hour late or get lost especially since this was my first time meeting his colleagues.
He searched around the apartment and finally found the invitation. He gave it to me to read and what it said was: Mr. and Mrs. (My parents name) bestow their blessing upon the engagment of…. Although there was not a lot written, it took a few minutes to digest what I was reading and when I looked up he was on one knee asking for my hand in marriage. My response was, “You are so tricky.”
After I said yes, he gave me 30 minutes to call anyone that I wanted to. After the 30 minutes passed, we went to a wine bar just the two of us to celebrate our engagement. We then proceeded to our favorite celebration restaurant in the city. The hostess led us to the table and to my surprise he had coordinated for all of my family and his family to be there.
The night finally ended with a hotel room downtown. I walked into a hotel room filled with roses, rose petals, champagne, and truffles.
My engagement was truly something out of the movies!!!
My husband (boyfriend then) and I had broken up and I started dating a new guy I met down the beach. It just so happened that he was in my boyfriend’s National Guard Unit (I didn’t know that at first). Well my boyfriend found out; seems Bob was talking about the new girl he was dating and it made him realize that maybe he had made a mistake. Anyway, long story short, I get a phone call to meet him after work and he arrived with roses and proposed to me. Of course, I said yes because I still loved him and in July of this year, we will be married 28 years. Thank you for the contest, I love these movies.
We were just taking a stroll on one of our favorite country roads one spring day and he just got on his knee all of a sudden!
I came home from work and had roses on my pillow.
My boyfriend turned to me and said “How about the 28th:” (of December). Not terribly romantic but I was thrilled. We’ve been married 23 years
I never was proposed to.

Posting this. Story written by my wife Allison.
“I found this blog at the suggestion of my husband, Drew at Benspark.com. Drew took me away on a romantic weekend in Moosehead Lake, Maine when he proposed. We spent our second day there hiking and then went kayaking on Moosehad Lake. We were packing up our gear and getting ready to head out when Drew called from the back driver’s side door “You’ve got to come see this! This is so cool!” ‘What could be that cool on a boat launch?’ I thought. “If it’s a bug I’m going to kick you in the head!” I replied. (How romantic, Allison!)
As I came around the back side of the car there was Drew on one knee with a beautiful antique style engagement ring. I’d always said I’d like an antique style ring and he always acted like he didn’t know what that was!! Nearly three years later we are loving life with our beautiful 8 month old daughter. Though Drew still teases me about the head kicking threat from time to time!!”

I tried for this yesterday but it didn’t go through, so, here’s my story one more time;
After a long evening sitting in the bedroom chatting about future endevours, my then boyfriend of six years leaned over to me, kissed me and said,” I want to have your children”. I told him we already have one (mine from a previous marriage). He then said,” yes I know, but I want some of ours together, I want to get married and have kids”. I asked him if this was a wedding proposal…”yes, will you marry me?”…
almost seven years and two girls later, we now have our perfect family.
It wasn’t the most spectacular proposal, but if you knew my husband…you would claim it as such. I love him dearly and am happy about the way it happened.

Fast forward a year later, and we had picked out a ring, but I didn’t know when the proposal would occur. We went to the beach for a day trip after church, and right by Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, OR, he asked me to marry him.
And btw, we got married on Valentine’s Day that next year

Ours was pretty bland too. We lived together for years first and then just decided to, so it was not really special or romantic. BUT, we have been married for 13 years.
I got proposed through the phone, not romantic at all!
He was in military and called me one day and said hey let’s get married. We were young and did not last very long now just looking for that one with a real proposal

We were wrestling around and goofing off with each other, giggling like little school kids. All of a sudden, he got a serious look on his face and pulled out a ring box from his back pocket and asked me to marry him. I was so emotional and told him yes immediately. We’re still married 5.5 years later.
No proposal, we just knew we would be married.
Never had a proposal unless my dreams count.

My husband basically handed me the ring and asked me to marry him – so romantic huh? Yesterday was our 15th wedding anniversary so something must have worked. Romance just really isn’t his thing.
My husband cornered me one day when I got home from work. He acted really panicked and asked me if I would love him no matter what. I was sure something horrible had happened. He kept asking, so finally I said, of course I would. Then he handed me the ring.

We had been dating a while and decided that we should pick out wedding rings. The DH took me out to dinner after we picked up the rings and proposed. Not romantic but I got what i wanted that way and he knew what the answer was going to be.
We had spent the entire day together at the State Fair, acting like kids– riding all the rides, petting farm animals, eating cotton candy and hotdogs. When the sun was going down, we sat on a bench overlooking the midway, and he turned to me. “Everyday could be as fun as this one if you’d marry me,” he said, then pulled a tiny box out of his pocket. He took me to Howe’s Caverns and proposed on the sweetheart stone.
My husband tried to propose after dating for 6 months, but you know when you met the one. No matter what they do, you’ll forgive and get through anything. He couldn’t get the words out. All he could say was ” I’ve got a question for you and I’m scared at what you’ll say, so I’ll ask later.” And 3 weeks later he finally asked, while dancing to our favorite song. He just asked outright – plain & simple.
My husband and I were friends for fifteen years, and had been dating for two years. We had dinner at The Olive Garden with his parents. His mom slipped him my engagement ring in the parking lot. My husband didn’t actually propose as much as he was forced to take the next step in our relationship. We ran into some friends who had announced their engagement and they asked when we were going to get married. So my husband answered “Um, sometime next year.” And that was it, we started planning our wedding from that moment and married the following year.
I told my boyfriend one day “If you asked me to marry you, I’d say ‘yes’.” Many days/weeks passed and he never mentioned it. Then one day he, off-the-cuff, commented about “when we are married”. That was the proposal!

single and loving it ….
We were going for a walk in the park walking through the autumn leaves. It was so wonderful.
I was proposed to in the traditional way, “man on his knees with a ring saying please marry me”. We had many happy years.
I’m not sure my husband did propose. His family keep asking after awhile when we were getting married. They could tell that we were soul mates. This is my 3rd marriage, his 4th. We are very respectful and good to each other. He didn’t need to propose, it was just ment to be. Please enter me, thank you
We were out for a day ride around the country and my hubby stopped on the road and picked me some wild flowers off the side of the road. And asked me to marry him. We have been married going on 25 yrs in July now.
We had already “decided” to get married (how unromantic, right?). But, one day, I came home from work and my man surprised me with a ring. After that, we set the date and we were married the following summer.
He handed me a Valentine’s Day card and where it was supposed to be signed he had written “Will you?”
I replied “will I what?”. He then got down on one knee, pulled out a white box popped it open, and said “Will you marry me?”
I of course said yes. It was so sweet and romantic.
I am still waiting….
My husband lived in Georgia and I was living in Florida. He had been drving down to Florida to see me and we talked on the phone every Tuesday. After a year I knew he was the man for me and I proposed while we were talking on the phone. He said yes. He told me later he was about to propose. We are still together after 18 years.
We started dating when I was 16 and got married when I was 18. Monday the 23rd will be our 13th wedding anniversary! YAY! I wasn’t proposed to. We just knew that we were going to get married and did. We now have 2 beautiful daughters that complete our family. Thank you!
Wife and I stil say the other person proposed. She said “would you marry someone like me?” I said “I wouldn’t marry someone like you – I’d marry you.” See, I’m right.

Not too romantic. He gave me a diamond ring for Christmas one year.
My husband to be showed me that he had just taken out an extra $250 thousand dollars in life insurance, and said it would be a shame if he did not have a dependant (he’s military). Practical guy.
Love the time in going to his house with his little girl asleep in my lap; asked me to marry him. Perhaps not romantic; but he said when he saw the two “most precious things to him together; he could no longer resist the proposal of marriage”. Many Thanks SW
my hub proposed in woolworths over a cheeseburger..not very romantic but we were only 18 and 19 and are still going strong 23 years later
My fiance proposed to me after he had a stroke and we were waiting for the ambulance to pick him up. :0/
My hubby proposed to me on the top of a roof top overlooking the city at night he got down on one knee and asked. Very romantic setting!
on the phone
Very simple on the couch with a ring from Walmart.
Actually when my husband proposed I didn’t even realize it, he then said do you want to get married or not. My answer of course was yes.
We were at dinner and he asked me as we were oredering. He was so nerves you could tell.
Well…..the rabbit died!
We had only known each other for about a month.
We had been talking for a couple of hours when he looked up and asked me to marry him. At first I thought he was kidding. We got married two months later.
We were married for 31 years and Iimagine would still be, had he not died.
My husband took me to a Jewelry Store and told me to pick out the wedding set of rings that I liked the best. I thought it was a joke and picked out one. I thought it was a joke for three weeks. We have been married for forty three years.
I was asked when my husband took me into his bedroom got down on one knee and asked me as his 8 year old and 13 year old tried to pick the lock on to door and get in LOL
We had been living together about a year when I was doing our taxes and said “This is stupid – We are loosing money not being married.” So he asked, I said yes and it’s been almost 21 yrs.
Now husband and I were on our 2nd date, he said I love you and want to get married. I said I love you too, yes. That was 27 years of marriage and 3 kids ago!
I asked him!
His ex wife scolded him for not asking me, then he asked!

My husband took me on a vacation to upstate NY, took me to a restaurant, and popped the question. Turned out, it was the same date my parents got engaged 28 years earlier!
good prize
my first marriage was uneventful. I picked out the ring…. he bought it… voila! The second marriage was to my high school sweetheart. We took my kids to the mall to get my daughter a haircut. He took my son to go look at comic books a few stores down. NOT! They went and picked out a ring together! Came home and I went to get inthe shower. When i came out, I had a fresh cup of coffee, my cigs and lighter (even though i didn’t smoke in house) and the chair pulled out. My son kept telling me to sit down… curious on what was going on… something fishy….. all three of them got down on one knee and proposed to me! wish i had a camera rolling! of course i said yes
not too romantic – he said i’d love atlanta and when i asked what i’d do there he said marry him! so by the time we decided it was already decided!
I have never been proposed to before but just love the way Jamie proposed to Areilia in Love Actually.

He got down on one knee and asked me. We were in my apartment.
My fiance proposed on our 4th anniversary of dating. He took me out to dinner and then to a hotel where our room had a “castaway island” theme. There were rose petals on the bed and champagne by the jacuzzi tub. It was so sweet!
We went out to a nice dinner, then went to the capitol building (Austin, TX) and he proposed on the steps!
Can I tell you when it happens?
He proposed to me by getting down on one knee in the door step of our home with wild flowers that he had picked on the side of the road on the way to my house! LOL He isn’t usually very romanitc, but at least he tried! Of course I said yes!
Mine was a nightmare I will never forget it. I had waited for my husband for 3 years while he was in service in Vietnam. He got home in November. He did not say anything about asking me to marry him. I loved him, but I wanted to marry and have children, so I decided if he did not ask me to marry him by the 1st of the year I was going to break up with him and find someone who wanted a wife and family. For Christmas that year he bought me a couch and chair for my apartment, I was so heartbroken, but did not let on. We had been together for 7 years total and the thought of separating was breaking my heart, but I knew what I had to do. He was driving a truck for his brother and had to leave out Christmas afternoon. After eating with my family we went by his brothers where there was a house full of people. After going in and saying hello to everyone we were all standing in the family room talking, and he was getting ready to leave, all of a sudden he hands me a box and says, “Here”. I look at it, and think surely not to myself, not in front of all these people without even saying a word. His cousin and everyone starts hollering, open it up, open it up. I open it up, and there is a ring. He does not even put it on. Doesn’t even say anything. Just looks at me, like he has done what he was suppose to do. Someone says, “give her a kiss, give her a kiss”. So he does kiss me,quickly. Then they holler put the ring on, put the ring on. I put the ring on. He grabs his stuff, and leaves in the truck no words nothing. Now isn’t that about the most romantic thing you have ever hear of. Oh yes he did ask my dad for my hand, the week before, I found out later. He said “Old Man, I’m taking a trip and want to know if I can take your daughter with me,” my dad said “I guess so”. We’ve been married for 37 years guess its worked.
