Now I must confess, I didn’t see this movie in the theater, and I wasn’t planning to rent it either, but then I got a copy sent to me for review, and one afternoon when the boys were complaining that there was nothing to do, I popped in the movie and “forced” them to sit and watch it with me. And the verdict? Thumbs up from everyone!
Starring Martin Lawrence, Raven-Symone, and the surprisingly funny Donny Osmond, College Road Trip stars Lawrence as overprotective father James, who thinks he has his daughter Melanie’s life all mapped out, including college at Northwestern, until Melanie (Raven-Symone) surprises him by scoring an interview at Georgetown. When she learns that she has just three days to get to Washington, James envisions a wonderful bonding experience, a college road trip. He packs up Melanie, her little brother Trey, and Trey’s pet potbellied pig, and they set off on their adventure.Well, it is a Disney comedy, so as I’m sure you can imagine, much hilarity ensues. I was impressed by Donny Osmond as Doug, who is also on a similar road trip with his daughter, but the two of them have a father-daughter relationship that seems to revolve around being as obnoxiously sweet as possible. You just have to watch it to see, it’s pretty funny.
I surprised myself at the end of College Road Trip by saying that I would watch it again. Martin Lawrence impressed me with his ability to handle both comedic scenes as well as more dramatic moments, Raven-Symone was polished and charismatic and even does a song-and-dance number, and it was just a good all-around family movie. Rent it for your next family movie night!

Oh good. I’ve been looking for a movie that would entertain my four nieces and nephews while I babysit. I watched the first two movies like that but the name slips my tongue right now…anyway thanks again!
The original is still the best.
