GetSmart, a service of LendingTree, is an easy-to-use site for people looking to get the best rate on a home loan. The site says it takes 2 minutes to fill out the form, which looks about right since there are only 18 questions. Your completed loan request is transmitted to participating lenders, and you get back up to five matches to lenders who will give you a conditional loan offer. You are not applying for the actual mortgage, so you’ll still have to fill out an actual mortgage application and pay any fees that go along with it. But you will know what kind of
home loans are available to you to help you get a better idea of what kind of financing might be available.

I couldn’t see it myself without completing the loan request form, but I read in the Disclosure section that there are also general articles available on the site with information on home financing. And I found out through a Google search that the Self-Help Directory that Dr. Phil recommends to people he counsels on his show lists GetSmart.com in the “Money Matters” section. I’m guessing that Dr. Phil probably has worked with GetSmart.com at some point to help people that have come on his show or that he sees privately get home loans. If you’re thinking about buying a house and just want to see what kind of offers you could get for mortgage financing, it can’t hurt to fill out the form, there’s no obligation at all, even if you do get matched up with Lenders, you aren’t obligated to actually get financing, so why not check it out for yourself?
