That’s IT, it’s flip flops only for me

Remember that post I wrote about how I wore wedge sandals to the Mall and while trying to carry Kaitlyn, my foot twisted and I fell down? The post that got me the “Accidental Mommy Moment” badge?

Um, I’m gonna need another badge here.

I wore the same sandals today to take Kaitlyn to a doctor appointment. While attempting to lift her up onto the scale, my foot twisted again, only this time instead of falling, I just ended up with all of my weight pressing down on the SIDE of my ankle.

Ouch.

I immediately yelled “OW! OW! OW! OW!”. You know what helps little kids feel MORE confident about being at the doctor’s? A GROWN UP yelling OW in the exam room area. The bright side of it is, if you are going to hurt yourself, doing it in while two doctors and four nurses are in the immediate area is the best place to do it. One took Kaitlyn out of my arms, one helped me into a chair, one of the pediatricians took a look and recommended an ice pack, STAT, and another nurse got me two ibuprofen and a cup of water.

All this before Kaitlyn had even been examined. I came home, put her down for her nap, got into bed with my book, and fell asleep for almost three hours. When I woke up, there was a nice pink swollen lump on the side of my ankle. It hurts more now than it did when it first happened. Chris made dinner, and now here I sit with an ice pack on my ankle.

Flip Flops. Tennis Shoes. Maybe something in a nice Moon Boot. But those damn sandals have got to GO.

I did something similar in July (my post titled Klutz), but it is an ongoing thing for me. High School cheerleading ruined my ankles for all of the little things-like walking. I can even do it in bare feet.

    Hope you’re feeling better today.

I did the same thing two years ago with high wedge sandals. I was walking (after a few drinks) and my shoe went forward and my foot went another way— I ended up breaking my foot. According to the doctor, that actually happens a lot.

I gave up really cute footwear years ago. I’m half clutz to start with I think – so cheap Nike sandals, Chacos and tennis shoes are my “fancy” footwear. But I’m also more a type to go outside to the garden and get coated in dust than do drinks with the girls at a bar, so that may have something to do with it.

ouch. :( perhaps that’s really not the footwear for you then… crocs perhaps? or maybe the sneakers would work out better… give you more support and protection. :)
