The DeChristmasification Process Has Begun

Author: Elizabeth

santaclause2_big Despite the fact that I STILL haven’t sent out the Christmas photo cards (which I blame on the fact that I don’t have enough money in the checking account to buy the stamps), the process of unChristmasing the house has sadly had to start. Our Fir tree stopped taking water over a week ago, and although the needles are still hanging on, it’s time to drag it out to the curb. I’ve delegated that task to the boys, while I sit here drinking coffee and blogging, because well, their job is to serve me, right? Come on boys, WORK.

Speaking of work, yesterday we built the COOLEST PLAYHOUSE EVER, with our own two hands and the sweat of our collective brows, and although it’s now taking up almost half of our living room, it’s still really wicked awesome. The building set is by ZinkoTek, a multi-award winning Building System that we very generously received from KEH Communications. I’ll be writing a more detailed review on MomReviews, but I wanted to show you the finished product. Can you spot Kaitlyn?

Having the boys home has also meant I finally get a chance to actually watch, without interruption, a whole bunch of great new release DVDs.  While the boys occupy Kaitlyn in the playroom with onDemand episodes of “Max and Ruby” and let her serve them plastic ice cream cones, I get to watch movies like the original “The Day The Earth Stood Still“.

DANG, is that ever a good movie, too. I thought I wanted to see thedaytheearthstoodstill-dvd remake that just came out with Keanu Reeves, until I saw the original and read what critics are saying about the new one. I may change my mind when I see the remake on DVD, but the original? For a movie released in 1951, I was surprised at how it didn’t feel like a movie made in 1951. There’s so little action, yet it feels like an action movie because of the tension that builds between Patricia Neal’s and Michael Rennie’s characters. Both the Two-Disc Special Edition and the Blu-Ray disc are packed with bonus features, too. If you’ve never seen this classic movie, I recommend picking it up!

So yeah. Chris had to go into work today to file his end-of-the month expense report, and I’m entertaining the thought of having a nice nap while Kaitlyn sleeps.  Later this evening, I’ll decide whether to watch The Duchess, American Teen, or a few episodes of Swingtown. Plus we’re having Chicken Cordon Bleu for dinner, which is always a fave. It’s a good day :)

I’m not looking forward to de-christmasing our office. At least I won’t have to check all the lights and hunt for extension cords.

We got a photo card in the mail today that said “Merry Christmissed.” Maybe that would be cute for yours too.
