On January 6th, CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment will be releasing The Tudors – Season 2 on DVD. It stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers (”August Rush”, “Mission Impossible 3″) as Henry VIII, English actress Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn, Jeremy Northam (”The Invasion”) as Sir Thomas More, Sam Neill (”Irresistable”) as Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, and Callum Blue (”Dead Like Me”) as Anthony Knivert. Historians might find this show frustrating, because it does take liberties with actual historical events. It might not be historically accurate all the time, but it is dang sexy, that’s for sure. If there’s one thing Henry VIII did like, it’s having s-e-x.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers was nominated for a Golden Globe award for his portrayal of Henry VIII, whose promiscuous ways change the course of history as he moves to divorce Queen Katherine (Maria Doyle Kennedy) and marry Anne Boleyn , prompting Pope Paul III (eight-time Academy Award® nominee Peter O’Toole) to have him excommunicated. Anne’s failure to provide Henry with a male heir sets the wheels in motion for her eventual beheading and sends the King into the arms of Jane Seymour (Anita Briem).
Showtime also created www.whothetudorareyou.com, a mini-site that lets you discover exactly where you would have existed in Tudor society according to your present day social status. Simply select some basic details about your life as it is now (sex, age, job, salary, etc.) and find out if you would have been a serf, a peasant, a noble, or even the king! You’ll get a mini-clip from the series and get some details into what your life would have been like. I took the quiz and it told me I would have been a Lady-In-Waiting. hmm. Take the quiz and tell me in a comment what kind of Tudor you would have been!
THE TUDORS: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON is packaged on four DVDs featuring all 10 episodes, plus two featurettes: Tower of London and Descendants of Henry, and the season two premieres of Showtime’s Golden Globe nominated series CALIFORNICATION and Emmy nominated series THIS AMERICAN LIFE®.
You can also unlock additional bonus features on your PC- the premiere episode of DEXTER SEASON THREE, and the first two episodes of the new Showtime series “THE UNITED STATES OF TARA” starring Toni Collette. THE TUDORS: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON will be available for the suggested retail price of $24.99. Pick it up on January 6th!

Well, dang, first it appeared that it was going to land on a queen…but then the damn thing scrolled down to a nun! A nun! And it called me Sister Alison, saying that I was well-educated (I’ll take that), morally pure (um, okay), and not horrendously filthy (nice!). Had I lived back then, I would have been in for a life of celibacy and constant prayer. No thanks!
As it was historically innaccurate and the lead looked nothing like Henry VIII, it was very unappealling.
the only thing i dont like about this show is Jonathan Meyers. I have never liked his acting skills or lack there of
I was all excited to get season 1 for my birthday last year, and then I watched a few episodes and lost interest. So disappointing, but I’m ready to give it another try since season II is almost out.
It propably is historically innaccurate, but its a tv show and it is very entertaining. I loved the show and Jonathan Meyers is amazing in his role. Good stuff, have to consider getting the DVDs.
Thanks for the post. I bought the DVDs and I really liked them. Jonathan was good (despite what atchisson says)
Thank you so much for posting. I Like Jonathan too because his role is really amazing.
I love this show! Yes it’s historically in accurate, but if you go to the showtime website you can learn the real facts and enjoy a great discussion.
I’m very much looking forward to season 3
ok, i have to resolve my previous comment. I watched another episode and mr. Meyers acting skills must have improved. he has redeemed himself
According to the quiz I was Henry VIII! I really love the life of Tudors… I know I sound weird but is like that…
