So yesterday I was just poking around online, clicking from link to link, looking for interesting articles about current events and movies and celebrities, just looking to be entertained. Well, I clicked the wrong link somewhere, because next thing I knew, random web pages started popping up on my screen without me clicking on anything.
My laptop got infected by a virus. Because I clicked on some spam link by mistake.
Fortunately for me, part of my husband’s job is to bring home laptops from work that no one is using and get them cleaned up and ready in case someone needs one. He just happened to have one that he brought home on Friday, so he installed Firefox on it for me and transferred over My Documents in case I needed something, and this morning I’m ready to go.
Except for one thing- he wasn’t able to get Outlook installed. Which means that a., the emails will be piling up like mad and I’ll have a bazillion to go through tomorrow, and b., I don’t have access to the folders that I made with reviews I need to do and giveaways I need to start!
SO, if you read this feed and are waiting for me to review something or start a giveaway, please email me at table4five (at) gmail (dot) com. I’ll get back to you and we’ll figure something out!

You could always have your email forwarded to Gmail. It should still keep a copy in Outlook and a copy in Gmail.
Hope you get it all worked out.
I just had the same thing happen the other day. Unfortunatly for me my husband doesn’t work with computers. The scary thing is I went to a site I had been to many times before, but it started doing the same thing. These people are getting more crafty everyday.
Hunter’s Wife- I didn’t even think of that, setting up Gmail to pull from Outlook. Thanks for that idea!
Taylor- I agree, especially since I was on the Yahoo! home page when I clicked the link that I think gave me the virus!
I’m so sorry! If my laptop died, I don’t know how I’d survive! I really should do some kind of backup.
hey eliz…
a. set your email to gmail. for sure. do it now.
b. hold a contest for new blog themes.
c. be open to buying one. that you can tweak much the design. one i’m highly considering: chris pearson’s thesis theme. it’s one of the most reader friendly (font wise and layout wise) i’ve seen.
hugs.
That’s nasty, Elizabeth. You were lucky that your hubby was able to help. At the moment, my computer is going slow, so it is restricting the amount of blogs I can view.
Hey Elizabeth, the same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. I got the virus (mine was Virtumonde) while dropping Entrecards. Lucky for me, my husband is computer savvy and got my system restored and cleaned.
The hackers are getting more crafty everyday.
Ouch, that totally sucks, I hate viruses, that is why I run the Kaspersky Anti Virus software program
My son put TWO dvds in the drive which caused my laptop to have a hissy fit.
3 hunnid bones later…………nevermind. I can’t even speak of it without CRYING.
My son said, he just wanted to see TWO movies at the same time.
Hold me.
Sheila- I worry about that too, getting one while dropping cards. But this time, I was on the Yahoo! entertainment page and clicked a link from there, then another one from that site. I just wasn’t really paying attention.
This new laptop has Windows 7 installed, and as annoying as the “cancel or allow” popups are, it should prevent me from picking up another virus!
Tanyetta- Oh no!!! $300 to get the DVDs out? That hurts.
I got some stupid thing just like that last week. I wasn’t even at the computer when it started, so I have no idea how it got there.
That was the least of my worries though, because then on Saturday my laptop crashed in the middle of a Windows update – and then wouldn’t load Windows properly. After hours on the phone with a really nice guy at Microsoft on Sunday, attempting to repair Windows, it still won’t work.
Dell wants me to use their hidden partition to restore the computer to the way it was when I bought it, but the computer guys where Jeffrey works say to do a new install on C. Dell’s way would destroy all my data, but a new install should only affect the C drive. I recently moved most of my files to the D drive, and they should be safe there. I’m hoping, anyway – but so far I haven’t attempted the install. Downloaded all the drivers from Dell onto a jump drive, but not quite ready to actually do it. All my email will be history, but luckily I use Yahoo and Gmail a lot – so that’s all safe.
Still, the whole thing makes me sick…
Laptops coming with Windows 7 pre-installed are still in BETA stage. Many bugs and crashes gets reported everyday.
This is why Im thinking of just going ahead and buying a Mac.
With my gaming days behind me, what does Windows really offer except viruses, spyware and blaring security holes?
For me macafee work better, its a nice nt virus + i have also a free software freentspyware installed. They both work too well and not let any virus and spyware to come in my PC
