Krispy Kreme Coffee FAIL

After a doctor’s appointment last week, I took Kaitlyn to Krispy Kreme for a special treat. They have coffee drinks on their menu. Now, I know I’m not going to get an expertly made, artisan coffee creation at Krispy Kreme, but they have a machine that makes the drinks for them. All they have to do is push buttons.

I ordered a Mocha. Shot of espresso, steamed milk, couple of pumps of chocolate syrup, it’s pretty hard to mess it up.

I get the drink, I take a sip, it tastes…weird. I take off the lid, I put in a couple packets of Splenda, give it a good stir, and taste it again…nope, still not good.

So I go up to the counter and I say to the man, “I’m sorry, but this doesn’t taste right. Did you make it with espresso?” And HE says…

“Oh, yeah. Our espresso machine is broken. I made it with REGULAR COFFEE.”

So what I was drinking was a couple of ounces of coffee mixed with a whole lot of milk.

I say, “can I have a fresh cup of coffee with a little steamed milk in it?” HE says…

“well, the milk steamer is part of the espresso machine, so that’s broken too”.

So what I was drinking was a couple of ounces of coffee mixed with a whole lot of COLD MILK FROM THEIR REACH IN COOLER.

At this point, Kaitlyn was getting antsy and we had to leave to meet Ryan off the bus, so I just decided to try to drink what I already had. As I was walking away, I remembered to ask if he had charged me for a Mocha. No, he had charged me for a medium coffee, so at least there was that.

But here’s the thing- at no point during my placing of the order, his making the drink, or his handing me the drink did he think to mention that oh by the way, THIS IS NOT THE MOCHA YOU WERE LOOKING FOR. In this guy’s mind, handing me a cup full of milk and a little coffee and syrup was a perfectly fine substitution for the drink I ordered. And it wasn’t.

Sorry, Lake Lansing Road Krispy Kreme.  That was a coffee FAIL.

Whoa, that’s not cool – I can’t believe he didn’t tell you! He should have at least given you the option of ordering something else (or not ordering anything at all!)

That’s a shame! Did anyone at their corporate offices see or hear of this? I had an issue with Pizza Hut recently and blogged about it and they saw it and emailed me. So it turned out to be a positive experience but I was very upset about it!

I tend to steer clear of coffee from places where it’s not their number one product.

I guess you will be now too, eh Elizabeth?
