My Stepmother came and picked up Kaitlyn today for the whole day plus spending the night. It’s the first time she has slept away from home without us there, and much to my surprise, we haven’t had a call saying Kaitlyn wants to come home.
When I buckled her into the carseat and handed her the book she wanted to look at, I said something like “bye sweetie, I’ll miss you.” You know what she did?
She gave me a HEAD NOD. That’s it! Not a “bye Mama”, nothing. Just a nod, like, “I’m cool here with Grandma, you can go now”.
Part of me wanted her to be at least a little bit sad to be separating herself from me! I mean, I didn’t want her to throw a big tantrum or start sobbing or anything, but she could have at least, you know, LOOKED UP FROM HER BOOK.

Bye Mom. Buh-bye now. *Sob*

i feel the same! when i left my baby girl with her grammy for TWO WEEKS, she wouldn’t even hug me! she was so excited for me to go! THEN she wouldn’t talk to me on the phone – i had to beg her to talk to me!
how do they get so big????
Yeah, it seems that kids never feel the gravity of the moment like we do. What’s a big moment for us turns out to be just another one for them
We have a 3 year old, letting go for that first night away is a biggie for sure……
=)
I don’t have to worry about him going away for the night as “Grammy” lives with us (and the other grandparents want him to be potty-trained first LOL), but I’ve already run into that not caring attitude with my 3yo. He will leave me with glee anytime anyone offers.
I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about, like Nick said, kids see this thing differently and don’t make a fuzz about it.
My almost 3 year old pretty much pushes me out of the door each time I drop her off at the nursery at church.
So far my 2 1/2 year old hasn’t spent a night away yet – and I’d like to say I’m looking forward to the first time he does (ahhh the freedom!), however, I just KNOW I’ll be heartbroken if I get a response like you did! Oh they grow up too fast! Enjoy!

Oddly enough, none of our girls have spent the night away from us yet, and Abby’s almost 8! There just hasn’t been an overwhelming need or chance for them to yet. I almost think it’ll be harder the first time that they do sleep away from us though since they’ve never done it before.
So did she have a good time?
