This giveaway is closed. Congratulations to the winner, Betty from Grandma’s Goodies!
I can’t believe it’s August already! It’s time to choose the second winner of the GoodNites Special Bedtime Moments Kit, and start the third giveaway!
There were 158 entries in the last giveaway, including bonus entries. Thanks so much everybody! I used random.org to choose a winner, and as promised, I skipped anyone who obviously did not follow the main rule for entry-going to the GoodNites site and entering the Special Bedtime Moments contest. So the chances were even better for those of you who DID follow the rules
The winner is:
Shel from Auntie Thesis, who told a great story about helping her daughter pick three stuffed animals to “guard” her while she slept, and about a special rhyming song they made up for bedtime. Enjoy your wonderful prize!
*****************************************************
For those of you wondering if you can enter this giveaway even though you entered a previous one, the answer is YES! You can enter the GoodNites Special Bedtime Moments Contest once per day per email address, so you can enter as many times as you have email addresses!
If you haven’t already entered one of my previous two giveaways for GoodNites, I’ll explain what I’m doing. I was chosen by GoodNites to join a small group of bloggers helping drive traffic to a very special contest. GoodNites is dedicated to helping kids feel more confident at bedtime by taking away the worry about nighttime wetting accidents. GoodNites Sleep Pants come in underwear and boxer short styles, so they look natural under pajamas and feel comfortable all night. With less worry about accidents, kids and parents can settle down for a good night’s sleep.

Here is my entry: I always remember my mom reading me fairytales before I went to bed. THe twist was they were in Spanish. I loved hearing those stories in Spanish. The gist of the stories were the same but they always sounded so much better.

“We’ve found with our kids that they do the best with bedtime when we are as consistent as possible with the time, the routine, etc. It’s not completely inflexible, but they know what to expect – that after pajama time comes snuggle/read time, after that comes brush teeth time, then hugs and kisses and bedtime.

Hi Elizabeth. I entered the Good Nights contest. As a mom of mature kids, we don’t have those “special moments” much anymore, but we used to. Maybe my short entry can encourage some of the busy young folks out there. This is what I wrote:
__________________________
Night time can be scary for children. It helps to reassure your child with some special attention before sleep. When my kids were small, I always took some time to read them a Bible story. These stories not only encouraged and educated my kids, but built in them important values and helped them to trust in God, who is with them to protect them and guide them both during the day and during the night.
Bedtime stories don’t need to be long, especially with today’s hectic schedules. But children are still children and they need that personal time with parents just as much as they need food and shelter. On evenings when I was especially busy, we read very short stories, or I read in on a “to be continued” mode. Even 5 minutes with my children at night was so precious to them. They knew that I would be there for them, that I loved them more than my busy life. And now that they are teenagers and adults, we have solid, caring relationships, and some really fun times, too.
Take a few minutes with your child every night– he will always remember those precious Good Night moments with you.

“I entered the GoodNites Bedtime Moments Contest and this was my entry” ” Before bed my son gets his jammies on and come back downstairs. We then read books and then he goes and gets into bed. He get a goodnight hug and kiss. He has books in bed he can until he falls asleep.

We always looked forward to our family’s get together at a family resort area each Labor Day. This time we were taking my two nieces who were staying with us. We knew that the younger child always slept with “Sleepy Baby” and we thought Sleepy Baby was packed. Well, when it was time to go to bed that night, there was no Sleepy Baby to be found and she was not going to go to sleep without Sleepy Baby. I had no idea what to do. Uncle Tom came to the rescue. He took a plastic glass, put a hand towel over it, tied it with a shoestring, drew a face on it and handed it to my young niece. She took it and went right to sleep. The next night she picked up her “substitute” Sleepy Baby when it was time to go to bed. Thank you, Uncle Tom.

My children know our routine. Bath, pajamas, read 3 books of choice and sing 2 songs then lights out. They are so happy when they go to bed and can dream happy thoughts.

When my sons were younger, I would carry them up the stairs to their rooms and we would begin our nightly bedtime ritual. They would begin by brushing their teeth and then I would read them a story or two or three, until they were sleepy. I would help them to say their prayers and always give them a kiss before saying goodnight and sweet dreams.

I entered the GoodNites Bedtime Moments Contest and this was my entry:
Peanutbutter Trick
We were having trouble with overnight “accidents.” I spoke to the doctor about it and together we came up with a plan. The doctor told that a teaspoon of peanutbutter right as you go to bed would stop the “accidents.” We began to get our spoon of peanutbutter that very night. It worked like a charm.

Alex Saves the Day
No matter what kind of day my five year old son, Alex, has had I try to show him just how special he is by making up “Alex Saves the Day” stories every evening. Always silly and never scary, the stories have him solving everyday problems in very adventurous ways. Whether the plot involves rescuing his sister, saving a cat, or assisting his grandma, Alex gets to do extraordinary things, and become the hometown hero. My son’s favorite story takes place on Father‘s Day. When Alex realizes his dad’s secret wish is to have a party, Alex decides he will make his dad the best present ever. He asks a construction company to send a backhoe and cement truck to his house. Alex gets right to work, digging and pouring cement in the backyard to create an inground swimming pool. When it’s ready, he invites the entire neighborhood over for the biggest Father’s Day party ever. As usual, Alex saved the day. Alex and I enjoy these bedtime stories so much because we get to laugh and imagine together. The best part though is that he looks so peaceful when he falls asleep, and I feel like a hero mom.

My children look forward to bedtime because we have made it a special bonding routine. After they washup and change, the lights dim, and no TV or computer in their rooms. We talk and I read a story or poem. They usually fall asleep within minutes after they’re tucked in.
I just subscribed by email and confirmed. Thanks!

I entered the Goodnite Moments a second time with this entry
All of my grandkids have enjoyed books but one became a real fan of Goodnight Moon before he could even talk. He would take the book to bed with him like most kids would take a stuffed toy to bed. The Goodnight Moon book came up missing one night. His mom looked everywhere for it but it was nowhere to be found. The little guy was so sad. The next day I went to the book store to get a replacement book for him and an extra one to keep at my house. I took it over and he thought it was his missing book. I gave it to him and stayed to talk a little. Then It was time to go and I picked up the bag with my copy of Goodnight Moon in it. The little guy thought I was talking his book home and began to cry..loudly. His mommy tried to explain to him…but when he realized he had a copy to take to bed with him then it was ok for grandma to have one also. Goodnight Moon.
I entered the Goodnites contest again today. Here is my entry
Bedtime moments are just as important for older children as for the little ones. My granddaughter is 9 and is an excellent reader but whenever I visit she asks if I will lay in bed and read to her. Of course, I say yes. These have become treasured moments and a wonderful bonding time for grandma and granddaughter.

I entered the following in the Goodnites giveaway
We got a small poodle for our son when he was 5 years old. We had decided beforehand that she would not be allowed on any beds. Each night when we went to bed she was laying beside our son’s bed. My husband would check on our son during the night. Now our little dog had tags on her collar that would come together with a jingle sound. My husband would hear this sound when he headed towards our son’s room and he would find the little dog laying beside our son’s bed. As he returned to our room, he would again hear the jingle sound of her tags. Well, being an intelligent man he figured out the dog was in bed with our son and would jump down whenever he heard my husband coming. Then she would just jump back in bed after he left. (Of course, we are sure our son encouraged this!) We decided to make an exception and let the little dog on his bed only. The little dog and the boy were both happy!
Sometimes you just have to change your mind!

I entered the following story to Goodnites
Sleeping At Grandma and Grandpa’s
It is sometimes hard for younger children to go to sleep at someone else’s house. We wanted to find something that would be special in each bedroom where our two younger ones sleep. For our little grandson who was just coming out of a crib, we bought a used car bed. He absolutely loves it and we have no problem with him going to bed at nap time or at night. For our granddaughter who was ready for a bunk bed (we started this when she was 7) we got a pink throw for the bed (she is a real girlie, girl and loves pink); gave her a shelf on the bookshelf including a pink piggy bank that we would feed to be just hers and made a sign for the bedroom door with her name. She loves it and spends time reading and playing in “her room” and we have no problems at bedtime.
I entered the GoodNites Bedtime Moments Contest and this was my entry:
After transitioning our daughter into her own crib and room for sleeping, we found that a night time routine helped things to go much smoother at night. Here’s what we now do:
1) New diaper, clean pj’s (well, so she’s clean!)
2) Mama takes her into the bedroom and without turning on the light, turns on the baby monitor/nightlight, fan, and “heart beat” teddy bear. (keeps lighting low to reduce arousal, white noise and familiar rhythm).
3)Mama nurses baby while singing bedtime songs in the same order every night (routine, and music is soothing).
4) Mama prays over baby (protection, right?!)
5) Daddy comes in and rubs baby’s back until she’s asleep.
The whole thing takes about 30 minutes and it’s a miracle worker!
I entered the GoodNites Bedtime Moments Contest and this was my entry:
I have two little ones under 3, and they sleep in the same room. Every night, we read a book downstairs, head up for bathroom time and then into the bedroom. I always have to make the beds (basically tuck the end of the blanket under), give each one hugs and kisses, and then I have to sing several songs. At least 5 of them everynight. LOL. They go to sleep pretty quick after that.
