Back to School plus photos

Today was the first day of school for the boys. Why so late? Michigan passed a law that school has to start after Labor Day to help with tourism. Although with this economy, I don’t know how many people really went up North this weekend. There were a LOT of garage sales around town.

I had no problem going to bed at 10:00 last night, even though that’s 3-4 hours earlier than I went to bed all summer. I had a throbbing headache in my right temple and I didn’t think I’d be able to fall asleep, but it only took me a few minutes and I was out. The alarm went off at 6:00, I jumped out of bed, and the boys were not only up, but dressed.

Ryan’s been a morning person since he was a preschooler. He started getting himself ready for school in First grade, and in 5th grade when he had to catch a bus at 6:50 AM, he rarely woke us up. We’d wake up when he slammed the door on his way out!

But Nathan is less of a morning person, today’s excitement notwithstanding. I was pleasantly surprised to find him up, dressed, and eating. They both packed their own lunches, and were out the door at 6:45. Since Kaitlyn wasn’t up, I turned on my computer to start clearing out the weekend’s emails. I’ve been very productive this morning!

I’m working really hard at getting caught up on all the reviews I want to post and giveaways I want to run, for two reasons. 1., because I don’t have the boys here to play with Kaitlyn, and I don’t want her watching tv ALL day. 2., we’re going to Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City this Friday through Sunday, and although I’m taking my laptop, I’ll be using it to post photos from the trip. I don’t want to have to work on vacation!

So for the next three days, I’ll be working on reviews and giveaways here, on MomReviews, and on MomCooks. Watch Twitter for updates and links :) hey! how about some recent photos of my kids to wrap this post up!

I have two kids in school right now. My son who is in 2nd grade this year, and my 5yr old just started kindergarten.

Then I have one at home my 4yr old girl…. who is the best at keeping herself entertained with No TV! Except this week, cause she had surgery last week, and is still recovering.

Monica- it’s so much quieter when it goes from three kids in the house to one, isn’t it?! Hope your little girl recovers soon, that must be tough.

Doesn’t it feel good when they get up and get themselves ready? It sounds like you have a wonderful getaway planned. Did I see on Twitter that your Dad is ill? I hope everything is alright.

Karen- I’m very proud of my boys for taking responsibility for themselves in the morning. I have been getting up, Nathan likes a little coffee in the morning and they both need reminders to brush their teeth. And it gives me an hour or so of quiet to work before Kaitlyn gets up :)

My Dad is not doing well, I appreciate you asking. He had a tumor removed from his bladder, got an infection from the catheter, which made him dizzy, and he fell and broke his elbow. He’s recovering slowly.

Mine are both in school *and* at home with me. ;) Been hs’ing the 5yo here and there as he’s been interested in things. :D

Lanna- Are you planning to continue homeschooling? Kaitlyn could have started preschool this year, but we’ve taught her so much on our own already, and she gets plenty of socialization. So I decided to think of it as preschool homeschooling before kindergarten next year. I just need to get her to start writing.
