I don’t know how Matt Groening does it, but I’m glad he does. New on box set is The Simpsons: The Complete Twelfth Season, with some of the funniest Simpsons episodes yet. With the exception of Kaitlyn, we watch Simpsons as a family and often quote lines from our favorite episodes to each other.
Season 12 starts with Treehouse of Horror XI, and continues with what I really think are some of the best Simpsons episodes ever. “A Tale of Two Springfields” finds the town divided by a new area code, “Insane Clown Poppy” introduces Krusty the Clown’s love child, “HOMR” finds Homer turning into a genius after a lodged crayon is pulled out of his brain, “New Kids On The Blecch” has Bart, Milhouse, Nelson and Ralph becoming the members of a boy band, “Trilogy of Error” has the same day told from three different perspectives.
You can tell these episodes are from 2000 by the description of “The Computer Wore Menace Shoes”- Homer becomes an INTERNET BLOGGER. I imagine most people in 2000 had never even heard the word blogger. Hee hee!
It’s just hours and hours of entertainment! Here’s a clip I like from “Worst. Episode. Ever.” -
AND, for a bonus features nerd like me, wanna know the best part? EVERY SINGLE EPISODE HAS A COMMENTARY TRACK. It’s like I died and went to bonus feature heaven. But that’s not all! The discs are also packed with featurettes, animation, storyboards, deleted scenes, “Easter Eggs”, and commercials starring the Simpsons. The set also contains an episode guide in full color with a page for each episode with the name of each chapter in the episode, the writer and director, and which special features are on that episode. It’s like getting a free comic book with your purchase! All that for only $31.99 on Amazon, $29.86 at Walmart.com.
When I read the reviews for the box set on Amazon, I was surprised how many people posted that they hated the packaging of the discs. Instead of plastic cases or individual sleeves, the box set is one big fold-out with sleeved sections for each disc. Some of the complaints said the discs scratched easily when removed, but we have not had that problem at all. And the artwork on the box set is AMAZING. I’ll have to show it to you later when I find my camera card reader – when you unfold the whole box, you get panels that depict Simpsons characters at a comic book convention in eye-popping colors. My husband wanted to hang it on the wall as art!
If you’re a Simpsons fan, get this. If you need to buy a birthday or Christmas gift for a Simpsons fan, I just saved you a shopping trip! Seriously, get this box set. You’ll be glad you did.
