Grey’s Anatomy The Complete Fifth Season

Grey's Anatomy 5Buena Vista Home Entertainment released Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Fifth Season on DVD and Blu-Ray yesterday, and sent me a copy for review. I put the DVD in the player and let it start up automatically, and found  a “Starter Kit” featurette that explains who the characters are, what the relationships are, and some of the regular plot points (mostly, how much sex everyone is having with everyone else). Right from the first episode, when a limo pulls up to the E.R. with a bloody Bernadette Peters, Mariette Hartley and Kathy Baker, you know this show pretty much rocks. And I also need to point out that 30 years of reading Entertainment Weekly paid off when I immediately knew the names Bernadette Peters, Mariette Hartley and Kathy Baker BEFORE the credits ran. It’s like Trivial Pursuit inside my head, people.

“Grey’s Anatomy” was created by Shonda Rhimes and stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang, Katherine Heigl as Isobel “Izzie” Stevens, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, T.R. Knight as George O’Malley, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens, Jr. as Richard Webber, Sara Ramirez as Callie Torres, Eric Dane as Mark Sloan, Chyler Leigh as Lexie Grey, Brooke Smith as Erica Hahn, and Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt).

In Season Five, Kevin McKidd (“Rome”) joins the cast as Army Surgeon Dr. Owen Hunt, and romances Cristina. Derek and Meredith continue to be on-again, off-again, Callie wrestles with her sexual orientation. Izzie’s relationship with Denny is complicated to say the least, and she faces a mysterious illness as well. To celebrate the show’s 100th episode, there’s a wedding. As usual, the dialogue is snappy and witty, with just enough humor to balance the pulse-pounding drama.  Bonus features:

  • “Dissecting Grey’s Anatomy- Unaired Episodes
  • “In Stitches”- Season Five Outtakes
  • “100th Episode: Tales From The E.R.”- A Behind-The Scenes Look At The Inner Workings Of Your Favorite Show

  1. I’ve never seen this show, but why is it extended episodes are never shown on tv?

Grey’s Anatomy is my families BIGGEST tv addiction. My husband & I are always glued to the tv and now our 2 oldest children are hooked on the show as well!

  3. Haven’t watched Grey’s Anatomy so much but I know it’s been in the TV and had gained its popularity. Uncertain if it’s still on air until this very day. Since it has been around way back 2005.
