Can’t believe I’m a morning person now

The bus comes at 6:47 AM.   Ryan’s been a morning person pretty much forever, Nathan, not so much.  For the last two years, Ryan was getting himself up in the morning and getting himself to school, yes, even in the 5th grade. I would wake up at 7:00 when Chris’ alarm went off and get Nathan up. He needs about an hour to eat, get dressed, drink some coffee, brush his teeth, and be ready to walk  out the door.

Which means that now that Nathan has to get up at 6:00, I have to get up at 6:00. I thought it would be sheer torture but truthfully, it’s not.  I get up and make coffee, make sure Nathan takes his pill, then turn on my laptop and start checking email. By the time Kaitlyn wakes up, I can take a work break and focus on her.

The only downside is that in order to get a realistic amount of sleep, I’ve had to put an end to my staying-up-til 2:00 AM habit from the summer. Because I like to read a little before I fall asleep, I have to be in bed at 11:00, 11:30 at the latest. It’s a complete shake up from my usual sleeping pattern, but I’m getting used to it.

How has your morning routine changed? Have you had to become a morning person?

I started getting up early way back when my kids were little. Even when they were babies they would sleep in, so I could, too. However, if I let that happen, then I found myself playing catch up all day. If I got up before the kids, I had time to start my day and get some stuff done before I had to move into mommy mode and take care of them. I still get up at 5:45 every morning and go walking. I wake my son up before we leave (my husband goes with me now) and he gets himself ready. Of course, he is a senior, so he should be able to!?
