Halloween was cold and windy, but it didn’t rain for the first time in years, so that was a plus! Chris took Kaitlyn trick-or-treating and I stayed home to pass out candy. The boys had a friend come over to join them and the three of them went off on their own. Between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM (when I ran out of candy), I probably had 75 kids come to the door, give or take.
Here’s our friend Mike in his Zoot Suit costume, Nathan in the middle, and Ryan on the right, in their “something black with a scary mask” costumes that they pick every year.

Um, yeah, I just realized Ryan isn’t wearing shoes in this photo, he did put some on before leaving the house
Kaitlyn threw a temper tantrum 15 minutes before trick-or-treating started because she suddenly decided she didn’t WANT to be Cinderella, she wanted to be a BALLERINA and wear her pink tutu. Of course, I hadn’t planned any kind of tutu-related costume, it was bad enough that I had gone to Target to buy a navy blue Hanes sweatshirt and matching sweatpants to keep Kaitlyn warm in the below-40 degrees-and-windy weather. I had to wrestle the Cinderella dress over her head, but once I added the fairy wings and wand, she was a happy little princess:

The hat from Kaitlyn’s costume last year was in the basement, Chris brought it up with the door decoration, and let me take this:

And finally, Elvis. I posted this on Twitter with the caption “Elvis says Happy Halloween or whatever. He’s pretty meh on the subject.”

And that was Halloween 2009. I’ll now be returning to my regular schedule of scarfing down all the mini Almond Joys and Mounds candy bars that my kids gave me from their buckets because they know those are my favorites. Best part of Halloween, don’t you think?

Haha! Too cute!
indeed very very cute
75 kids???? Wow! That’s some serious trick or treating! Trick or treating is not so big here in Malaysia but everyone does get dressed up and some candy gets passed around at parties. Until today, I still don’t know the real story behind Halloween.
A great collection, Elizabeth. I like the zoot suit!

I was afraid my daughter would protest her costume but she didn’t. You averted a crisis, and she looks so cute!

lol What is it with boys and the whole scary ghoul thing, anyway? LOL
I still made Libby wear a turtleneck under the top of her costume because I’m so used to the below 40 degree thing LOL
