Some of you might be too young to remember the year that Tickle Me Elmo was released, and toy stores were overrun with shoppers desperate to snatch one up before they sold out completely. I reviewed Zhu Zhu pets back in October on MomReviews, and I predicted that they would be the hot, hot, HOT toy for 2009. Now I know I was right!
We went to Target yesterday and as I was walking to the bathroom, I walked by the notice board where they post the current week’s ad. On a piece of paper, in big letters, was a sign that read “Due to limited supply, Zhu Zhu pets will be limited to four per guest”. So then I checked Toys “R” Us, and they are limiting the purchase to three per customer! Who would have guessed that a battery-powered hamster that moves on it’s own and makes adorable noises would be the hot, hard-to-get toy this year like Tickle Me Elmo once was?
They really are adorable, and come with tons of accessories like habitats, a car, skateboard, surfboard, rolling ball, ramp, and slide. It’s like having a hamster for a pet but with no messy cage to clean! Zhu Zhu pets are sold at Target, Toys “R” Us, and Walmart, plus I’m sure other big stores will at least try to get them, so if you think someone on your holiday gift list would like one, go buy it NOW!

They just did a story on them here in Rochester, ny. My bf was like huh never heard of them. I was like all the blogs were raving about them saying they would be hot! He was like hmmm since everywhere is sold out try to win one. lol. The news had called all the local target/walmarts and everyone was sold out and they said as soon as a shipment hits the shelf they are gone, that people have been calling for weeks trying to get them!

I saw this same cute thing in one other blog post a few weeks ago. So, I guess if people are blogging about it, it must be a hot item indeed. And if a toy gets a good mention in moms’ blogs, it must surely sell!

I had no idea these were so popular! In our family, we make holiday gift lists using myregistry.com (I recommend this site to everyone, we started using it for my youngest’s baby shower and over two years later we still find new uses for it!) and my 5 year old has zhu zhu pets on his list. I have a rule that I never go shopping until after black friday but now I’m panicking that I won’t find it in time for Christmas! Any recommendations on where to look once it’s closer to the big day?
I got up at 4am and hit up the local toys r us. Luckily I was one of the first ones there and was able to get my kids these. My friend however went at 9am and they were already sold out of the weeks batch!
Yea it’s crazy! These little Zhu Zhu Pets are hard to get a hold of especially at a low price.
